Interview with Singer/Guitarist JUNO

How long have you been playing guitar? Do you play other instruments?

I’ve been playing guitar for about 10 years now!! My first instrument was piano–I used to play for my church services.  I later switched to the guitar mainly because you can’t take a piano to the park or beach.

You have a new album out titled “Help Is Not On The Way” Tell us more about it – how long did it take you to complete it?

This Album is my heart and soul, and it took me 2 years to complete.  After touring with Camila Cabello & Bruno Mars, I moved to LA and was living in an abandoned garage that I tried to make my “free home” as I was transitioning.  As I was washing the dishes in this dirty bucket I tried to turn into a sink, I screamed out “Help” but it echoed back to me.  I was so far away that no one could even HEAR my cry for help.   I immediately realized that “Help is Not on the Way” and it was that very moment that I got up and decided I was going to get up and change my own life.  The rest of the story…well, you will have to listen to the album to hear that 🙂

We loved every song on the album – do you have a favorite? If so, why?

It changes every day. haha, TODAY my favorite song is “CHURCH.”  It is such a powerful song with a powerful message.  The church that I used to play piano for “kicked me out” after learning that I was queer.  As difficult and lonely as this rejection felt, it was just what I needed to get out into the world and find my own voice. It wasn’t until THEIR voices stopped playing in my head that I could finally hear my own.

If you had to name one artist that inspires your work the most – who would it be?

I’m a huge Coldplay fan.  The energy and emotion that they capture in their music are undeniable.  I’ve never met them but the SECOND I turn on their music, I feel drawn in and captivated by their stories and perspective of the world.  I always say “music heals” and Coldplay’s music has healed me time and time again.

What do you hope listeners feel or take away after hearing the Album?

I hope listeners feel INSPIRED and CHALLENGED after listening to the album. I also hope they listen front to back and don’t be skipping LOL—In sharing some of my deepest pain, I hope it encourages you to continue to push through YOURS.  It gets better on the other side once you realize that “Help Is NOT On The Way.” That’s not a ‘sad’ message, it is an EMPOWERING message. You don’t need to rely on anyone else, everything we need is already inside of us!
