Interview with Chicago Based Hip Hop Artist BNI
How did you come by your stage name?
I was with a group of soldiers at war. SAW members M1 and Killa C gave me the name BNICE. When I left the group, I took the c and e off and kept the Bni which means black Nawledge intellect.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
My father introduced me to music like Nat King Cole, B.B. King, Sam Cooke, and other older singers. When I heard Nas, LL COOL JAY, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim and Jay Z it made me want to get into music as well.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
JayZ and Nas.
On your upcoming project, how did you come up with the concept?
The concept came from the Bible when Moses and Pharaoh each tried to lead the people to the promise. But then the one to lead them to the promised land was Joshua. He becomes the only one to succeed. That is why it’s called the Joshua Effect. I want to lead the people to a new way of listening and thinking.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
The greatest challenge is people saying I’m not going to make it and I am still here doing it. My greatest attribute is a never quit attitude because it’s going to happen.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I’m the best all-around R&B and rap artist, actor, and model.
What are your plans for the near future?
To get in the industry to create a platform for my kids and the ones coming behind me.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
I would like to thank my brother, Tas for hanging in with me. Malik Yusef, CEO of Private Plane, for giving me the opportunity to be an artist. Dawn Soto, Owner of World Empire Music Group. And finally my bro, G Syl because it wasn’t for him none of this would be possible.
