VØR Struts Her Edgy, Haunting Voice on “Unspoken”
Berlin, Germany-based indie-pop artist VØR releases her single/music video, “Unspoken,” the first single from her upcoming debut album, Honey, releasing March 25, 2022.
Talking about the album, VØR shares, “There is no fixed topic on ‘Honey,’ in some songs I observe my innermost and share it. My fears, my depression, or what it was like to grow up with someone who is an alcoholic. In other songs, I share my observations and become a kind of magnifying glass for the listener. I address topics that are considered a taboo and that can also hurt – if you take a closer look.”
Speaking to the album’s title, Honey, VØR says, “Loving and accepting yourself with all your rough edges is not self-evident for me, I try to get a little better at it every day. The instrumental of the single ‘Honey’ consists almost entirely of me and my voice, which makes the song so authentic.”
In 2018, VØR dropped her EP, Liminal, followed by 2020’s Liminal II. The two EP were immediately likened to Florence + the Machine, as well as Lana Del Rey.
“Unspoken” opens on a stripped-down piano, radiating sad colors, followed by the entry of a fat, subterranean bass and syncopated drums. VØR’s voice, simultaneously brimming with melancholy and seductive tones, imbues the lyrics with alluring, sumptuous timbres.
“Baby don’t go / Gimme a kiss before you go / Baby don’t go / One more kiss before you go / Baby don’t go go go go go go go go go / Gimme a kiss before you go go go go go.”
VØR is an artist to keep an eye on. With her bewitching voice, layered with subtle modulations, she captivates listeners, luring them into her lush sonic realm.
