Jay Vinci talks about his craft, sense of style and much more

How did you come by your stage name?

Jay Vinci comes from Vinci, the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines where I was born. Jay is a nickname I had since I was a kid. It just made sense for me to name my self this.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

As a kid, I grew up singing songs on the radio and it didn’t occur to me that I could pursue the music career. To me, I just liked singing along to songs and I thought that was it, but really it was much deeper than that. I know most people knew they wanted to be a musician since they were kids, But I wasn’t thinking about that.

I was thinking about going to Canada one day and living with my mom, it wasn’t until moving to Canada I began to evaluate my life and I asked myself what do I want to do. This was at age 19, It wasn’t until 2016 at age 24 that I truly started to pursue my dream.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

My style is a mix of every musician that I listened to growing up or even recently. I make different genres of music. When it comes to making R&b I get my style from Usher/Partynextdoor mostly. when it comes to making pop/hip hop songs my style switches to a Drake/Travis Scott or PnB Rock-type style. When it comes to my swag/style though I got that from my momma Lol!

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

I’m sure most musician is like this but I have like a couple of songs that I’m working on right now. But the one I’m mostly feeling right now came real easy. I buy beats right, But I wanna start making my own.

Sometimes when I’m listening to a beat or wanna write to it. I go off of what the title of the beat is and I make a song to that, But that sometimes usually it depends on how the beat makes me feel. Then I write the song depending on what emoting the beat brings out.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

One of my greatest challenges is staying healthy because I was diagnosed with a serious condition in 2016 and I’m praying it doesn’t affect me in the future because I really want to make it.

My greatest attribute would be my determination and my drive to never give up, at times my drive isn’t always there but it’s easy for me to motivate myself and get my drive back up.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

I think I’m the best for sure! every one of my songs is catchy! I don’t think I can make a bad song (knock on wood).

What are your plans for the near future?

Well, my plan is to make it on radio stations around the world and from there get signed to a major label. Then from there take the game over.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

Id like to thank usher because after coming to Canada from the St. Vincent & the Grenadines my focus kind of shifted from music a little and I was getting into trouble a lot.

but I discovered usher like a year after coming to Canada and I was hooked on his songs and it kept me out of trouble because I would spend all day listening/singing his songs. I want to thank him again for inspiring me and for making all those classic hits because if it wasn’t for those songs I don’t think I would be where I am today.
