Interview with Los Angeles based DJ/Producer Owltrax

How did you come by your stage name?

So the name Owltrax developed over a few years after I started DJing. I always knew I wanted to represent my music with an Owl character so that’s the first part and the second part just came together one day while I was doodling.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

It all started after I saw Gareth Emery play live once. At the time I loved music and EDM and knew I wanted to what I do now for the rest of life, but when Gareth Emery played I saw myself on that stage and broke the ice by buying my first DJ controller and just practicing 6 to 7 hours a day.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I love trance music. I’ve always wanted to follow Gareth Emery and Avicii’s footsteps so I do have that trance style in my mix even though I’m a Dubstep/Riddim artist. I also admire Subtronics and that’s who iI thrive to become like.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

The challenges that I face myself I feel like is always making my set more interesting for the crowd and shaping it to be special for that one night. I don’t want to ever be repetitive. I always want to bring something new to the table in my mixing style, music, and even my visuals.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

That a really hard question to answer, I do believe in myself when it comes to music and I believe in my own shaped style and that’s what I like the most of this world is that there’s no good or bad because every artist is unique in his own way, but yes there’s always room for improvements.

What are your plans for the near future?

I want to play at tomorrow’s land that’s my goal, but for the near future, I would say to start touring around Europe.

How can fans find you?

All my socials are “Owltrax” on any platform, Instagram, Facebook, SoundCloud, Snapchat, you name it everything is under that name.

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

Believe in yourself, don’t take no for an answer. People are always going to tell you that its not gonna work, or that you’re not lucky enough to get big, or anything negative honestly. Just ignore it all, make connections, ask for help, keep on doing what you’re doing and you will get there. trust.
