RōZY Flaunts Attitude and Talent on “Doll”

Houston, Texas-based rock outfit RōZY releases the music video for “Doll” – about self-assertion and taking charge rather than allowing outside pressures to shove you into a pre-fab mold.

Explaining the song, vocalist/guitarist Zoe Flores shares, “There’s so much pressure society puts on us, from how we dress to what job we have to what we consume in our bodies. As humans, we should be allowed to be the best version of ourselves. We want people to feel good about themselves when they listen to this song. No matter what anyone tells you, whether it’s that you’re too short, not skinny enough, you couldn’t be this or you have to look this way, you are beautiful just the way you are.”

Made up of Zoe Flores (guitar, vocals), Molly Flores (drums), Brandon Martinez (guitar), and Charlie Bubenik (bass), RōZY began making big waves last year with the release of “Come As You Are” and “Pretty Little Lies,” along with sharing the stage with Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, Kings X, Youth in Revolt, Vixen, L.A. Guns, and Jake E. Lee’s Red Dragon Cartel.

The video, co-directed by Flores, was shot in Houston at Super Happy Fun Land and conjures up memories of That ‘70s Show. At the current juncture, RōZY is laying down tracks for their forthcoming debut EP, slated for release later this year.

“Doll” opens on low-slung thrumming guitars generating latent explosive energy, a brawny blend of pop-rock, grunge, and pop-punk with dollops of alt-pop. When the guitars ramp up on the chorus, the tune assumes tasty pop-punk textures as Zoe’s edgy, expressive voice imbues the lyrics with lustrous colors narrating her refusal to be anyone’s doll.

Effortlessly alluring, the ebb and rise of the harmonics offer electrifying shifts atop an infectious rhythm. Combined with Zoe’s tantalizing riot grrrl-lite vocals, “Doll” allows RōZY to strut their spine-tingling pop-rock sound.
