Interview with up and coming artist Pete Driver
How did you come by your stage name?
My real name is Arthur Driver, but my nickname is Pete. Pete was given to me by my uncle Ralph. (R.I.P.) He used to get drunk and call me Pete, so I knew my nickname before my real name. My first rap name was camouflage.
Then when Camouflage from Savannah came out, it killed that. I was formally known as Pistol Pete, but someone already had that name. I wasn’t trying to deal with no bullshit in the long run, so I just decided to go with Pete. If it’s another Pete Driver that raps, then I got some badass luck. But really I figured I can’t lose with just being me.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I grew up on music. I always tell my wife that she grew up in the church but I grew up on music! My uncle Ken was into music, He managed a few local acts in our hometown of Griffin, Ga. He fucking loved hip-hop. I was in 2nd grade and knew Dj Quick’s “tonight” Too short “The Ghetto”.
All that’! I’m not gonna say I always wanted to be a rapper but I always wanted to do music. I listen to all types of music, and I can write all different types of music! But real talk I was a great basketball player and I eventually chose basketball over the music.
And I got a family so it’s always been like I have to pursue my dreams but I got responsibilities. It’s like you know what you wanna do but you know what you gotta do and my families well being comes before my dreams. But I’m now in a place where it balances all out.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
The south! Any and everything from the south. We grew up on OutKast, Goodie Mobb, 8ball and MJG, etc. I’m an 80’s baby so I got a little age on me. But like I said I listen to all types of music. Also, different producers and different atmospheres create different styles. That’s what makes music so dope. It’s a universal language. But mainly the south.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
Right now, I have a mixtape in progress called Bagchasin101. Really it’s self-explanatory. Everybody’s chasing a bag so it’s highly relatable. I’m promoting my single called “Bad” featuring Lynn Tate. We are about to go hard with it so be on the lookout for that.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
I’ve played ball my whole life. I scored 34 points in the state championship game in high school and was first-team all stats. I know you get out, what you put into it. You go hard, you see rewards, you don’t, and life just passes you by along with the people who are working hard.
I haven’t always put 100% in my career but I have no regrets cause I’m a family man. I went to college and have a degree. I have my backup plan if it doesn’t work. And I know some people may think differently. But when you got people depending on you, it’s different.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
Yes, I am just like said, at what I do. I don’t think I’m the best rapper but I do think I’m the best at being me. Everyone should feel that way. Can’t nobody do me as I do me? “Big Facts”. If you don’t feel like that then you are a depressed ass person.
What are your plans for the near future?
Really just getting Dale Drive Intaprize to intro the conversations with the big dogs in the game. I’m starring in the independent film called “Da Story B4 Da Glory”. It’s also starring my label mates Brandon (B.Gizal) Gaston and Champ B. It’s was written and directed by Jabari (Leylo) Crowder of Lovizionz Multimedia.
Also, we have the soundtrack out right now on my mixtapes. My Boy Champ B got a new single out with Joe Green. It’s going crazy. B Gizal’s new video just dropped on Dirty Glove Barstard. We are working! 20/20 treating us well.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Shout to my Bro Champ and Gizal. Shout out to the whole city of Griffin, Ga. it’s a lot of dope artists in my city. Literally too many to name. We are bubbling and it’s coming. Shout to my Wife Jessica and My son Ayden. Also the rest of my family and friends that support what I do. Anybody I forget, they know it’s all love on my end!

What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Stay down. Continue to do what you live to do no matter what. Don’t do it for the money, because money doesn’t make you fucking happy, it makes you comfortable, if you love it, the money will come. You just have to stay down.
