MELIONE talks about love for her craft, upcoming project and more

How did you come by your stage name?

MELIONE (Mel-E-On)

The first two letters is M-E. Me. It represents getting to know yourself. Being comfortable in your own skin. Knowing who you are. Who God made you be. ME.

The next letters are L-I-O-N. Lion. It represents being bold, having audacity and courage. Being the King or the Queen of the jungle. LION.

The last three letters are O-N-E. One. It means the chosen one. The one that stands out. The one that stands up for what you believe in.

So it’s a journey. You find out who you are, who you’re meant to be. You become bold and courageous and carry yourself like Royalty. And you be the One that stands out and stands up for what you believe in!

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I’ve always loved performing since a kid. I would do skits, create dances, and lip-sync to songs in front of family and close friends. I started writing poetry at age 9-10 and right after started writing my raps. The more I performed, the more people would tell me I’m really good at it. I started realizing this is something I truly love doing and can actually make a living off of.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

Earlier artist influences include Eminem, Lauryn Hill, Tupac, Missy Elliott, Eve, TLC. Newer artists: I love J Cole, Nipsey Hussle, Danileigh and Drake.

On your upcoming project, how did you come up with the concept?

It’s my second ep, LION! My first EP was “Me”.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

I think to find the balance of creating for a living and still being able to pay bills! Making time for somewhat of social life at times haha

My family inspires me. Their support and sacrifice have allowed me to see how blessed I truly am. And also, I don’t wanna live a mediocre life! Haha I know with the lifestyle I want to live, it’s going to take hard work! But with that, and God, anything is possible!

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

I’m the best at doing ME. Being Melione. “The best” is really subjective but I aim to do my best and just be fire!

What are your plans for the near future?

I’m releasing my second EP “LION” this summer. Getting ready for a tour. And just djing and being in the studio!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

Yes, major shoutout to all my fans! New and old! Everyone supporting and following the journey!
