Mack Lightning Interview with Muzique Magazine
How did you come by your stage name?
I was inspired by rap legend Mac DRE he made me feel like I wasn’t alone in life. And then it just hit me like I was struck by lightning so why not call myself Mack Lightning.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
Well, I’ve always loved the art of hip-hop music for as long as I can remember. But I was about 7 or 8 when I first heard 2pac. My cousin Eric and I were walking on the sidewalk and we saw something in the middle of the street and it was a 2pac album all eyes on me and we took it home and started listening to it over and over. So ever since then I fell in love with his music and wanted to be just like him.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Well, 2pac of course he always inspired me almost my whole life. I’ve always looked up to him. Also, I can’t forget about slim shady. I mostly try to put the 2 and 2 together and create something special.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
It basically took me almost 5 years to complete. Because there were a lot of things that made it very complicated for me. Such as drug addiction that I had to overcome. Going in and out of jail and also having family members pass away. But it all mainly came together on its own for the most part.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
The biggest challenge that I was hit with would have to be overcoming my drug addiction. It was to the point where I didn’t care anything but my next fix to get high. But once I got clean things started to change for the better. I can say one thing for sure is that we ain’t hungry anymore. I just never gave up on myself and always kept pushing on and being strong.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
No, I’m not the best. To me, it depends on how you interact with the world and can handle yourself in society. 2pac will always be my #1 favorite cuz he basically set the stepping stones for us all to follow.
What are your plans for the near future?
Well, I plan on buying a house here real soon and then starting up my studio again. But mainly I just plan on enjoying my life to the fullest because life is too short to always be angry.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout-outs?
I just wanna thank God for every breath I take and also Jesus Christ. Because If it wasn’t for him none of this would have even been possible for me to achieve.
