Interview with Toronto based Artist/Songwriter Kid Kole

How did you come by your stage name?

I just thought of who I was outside of an artist and that’s just a normal kid. No matter how old I get I always feel like I will be a kid at heart, and that’s where Kid Kole came from. It’s just a simple name that flows very well.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

The same three artists have been my inspiration and responsible for who I am as an artist. Drake, Mac Miller, and J Cole. I take a little piece from each of these artists and try to combine them in my own unique way. The reason I say Drake is not necessarily because of his songs, but more because of his versatility. I have done trap, r&b, backpack rap, and now I have started doing some commercial pop. Drake can do it all and sound incredible on any project he puts out, and that’s exactly how I want to be.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

On my latest project titled ‘Kinsey’, I looked to create something that people would smile too, no matter their mood. It is an upbeat song with great melodies and just slaps speakers. I wanted a track that could not only be enjoyed alone or with friends but also one that could be on the radio. Kinsey is an Instagram Influencer and all of the inspiration came from her. She has amazing vibes on her Instagram and Youtube pages and I wanted to embody that same energy.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

My greatest challenge is trying to come up with this generation where the competition is so high. This doesn’t discourage me one bit though. Honestly, it makes me work harder because there is nothing more motivating than seeing an artist blow up who does not have crazy talent, lyrics, image, or beats. I know that if I keep working and get the opportunity, I will be able to sell myself to anybody in the industry and that is my greatest attribute, my resiliency and ability to express who I am at a professional level. My music speaks for itself!

What are your plans for the near future?

Straight up, I don’t plan on doing anything other than blowing up. How will I do this? I’m still working on it but I can promise anyone who questions it, I will not stop until I reach my dream. I am just going to continue to reach out to people, release music, and make as many connections as I can until I get my foot in someone’s door. With summer on the way, I have some new tracks that I will unload and make sure the vibes are met with the perfect song.

How can fans find you?

Fans can find me on all social media platforms with the handle @realkidkole, as well as on all streaming platforms as ‘Kid Kole’.

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

If you are in this just to get famous, stop. Do it because you love music and could not imagine yourself doing anything else in life.
