How did you come by your stage name?
I started posting youtube videos in 2009 under my birth name Jarrett Holt (when it was unpopular to create content) and I received a following from my comedy skits. One of my series was called “The Family Dinner” and one of the character’s name in there was CHAD. CHAD was an alternative pop-punk boy who loved to make music and not listen to his parent’s rules.
When I finally started posting music under the moniker “BOY CHAD” it just instantly clicked. I was 17 when I posted my first official song and so I was still a “BOY” trapped in the “CHAD” body. Hence the persona BOY CHAD was born.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
Growing up I would always watch Michael Jackson and I loved how every time he released a project it would come as a movie. It was a MOMENT! I was so inspired I started filming, producing, directing, and editing music videos for artists, and eventually realized that I might as well make my own music and direct my own music videos. I got into the studio, created some amazing music and the rest was history!
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I make clothes, and also style clothes based on how I am feeling that day. I love people to say “WOW THAT’S UNIQUE” and so I just try to not follow trends and go with what I think is cool. I’m a true trendsetter!
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
LOSING CONTROL DUBSTEP REMIX is a hyper pop club anthem that I made. It is definitely a club anthem and at first, listen it sounds like I am talking about being addicted to drugs or the “drug” being love. It is actually about my perseverance in continuing my art regardless of what anyone has to say about it. It’s super trippy and super cool!
