Interview With Japanese Jazz Fusion Band Nekozurashi

Muzique Magazine. Where are you from?

Koota Tanimura. Osaka Japan

Muzique Magazine. How did you come by your band name?
Koota Tanimura. Nekozurashi was just word that was used momentary in stage act by the Japanese comedy team named city boys.

Muzique Magazine. When did you start making music and taking it serious?
Koota Tanimura.  Since watched Jimi Hendrix on TV and checked Frank Zappa and retired trumpet training and read musical grammar book.

Muzique Magazine. How do you feel about the present state of the music industry?
Koota Tanimura. Too much loudness with too much limiting with too much compressed sound and too much Justin Bieber things. I knew That’s necessary, unstoppable power inflation for MP3 playlist. And they have had long history that’s unrewindable.

I guess no more new trick, to be new trick, just rebuilding from the pleasant past as backbones, it means personal history rewriting without temporary gimmick.

Muzique Magazine. Who influenced you to become a band? Why?
Koota Tanimura.  Miles Davis and Frank Zappa. They are already my standard, classic. Never depends on genre, style. It would be just beautiful music.

Muzique Magazine. Do you feel that you are an artist/band or entertainer? Explain.
Koota Tanimura.  I’m composer, because I write score.

Muzique Magazine. How do you feel about bootlegging?
Koota Tanimura.  I have bought that. Sounds bad, but interesting.

Muzique Magazine. Would you prefer to be independent or signed to a major?
Koota Tanimura.  I’ve never got that. I can’t imagine that happens to me.

Muzique Magazine. What are you currently working on and how can the people find you?
Koota Tanimura.  Check our Facebook or Reverbnation page. Currently that’s all.
