Interview with Singer/Songwriter Luna Bby

Luna Bby, formally known as Lewisha Jeter and Lew to her family and friends, is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Although she was born July 14th, 2000 in Long Beach, California, the majority of her life was spent in Spokane, Washington. Where she lived with her mother, step-dad, and 5 siblings.

Luna graduated early at the age of 16 years old as a junior and immediately started college at Indiana University South Bend in hopes to attend the Jacob Smith Music School in Bloomington. In high school she participated in Show Choir, traveling between Indiana and Michigan performing, often receiving solos for the school shows.

While attending college Luna was a foster care youth and later left Indiana to become emancipated. Luna began writing poetry at the young age of 11, later those poems would become heartfelt songs. Participating in church praise dance and choir was the start of an amazing musical journey.

How did you come by your stage name?

Luna originated from my zodiac sign and my love for the moon. I am a cancer, cancers are called “MoonChild” and Luna means moon.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I’ve always had a deep passion for music since I was younger. My mother also had a beautiful voice and I was involved in choir all through elementary school as well as a youth in the church. Being in a gospel choir and praise dance really piqued my interest in performing. Also watching the award shows and American Idol on tv when I was a kid.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I wouldn’t necessarily accredit my sense of style to anyone because I am so versatile. I enjoy listening to all genres of music but my favorite would be R&B, especially the throwbacks. Mary J, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone. My mother played a lot of “feel good” music when I was growing up.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

I wanted to open up to my fans and become vulnerable. Allow people to learn the things that they are curious about by telling them a story through my song. In my young 19 years of life, I feel like I have a powerful story to tell. Survival, love, abandonment.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

Some of the greatest challenges I would say we’re growing up too quickly. I don’t have any regrets and it ended up making me very mature for my age but I had to go through some things to get to where I am today and it was hard growing up and trying- still trying every day, to be adult and be responsible and now I am a mother.

Having my son made me find a sense of purpose in life and only made me even hungrier to achieve my dreams but it also made me find my identity. Another challenge that I still struggle with to this day is my mental health. It’s so important to address it and it’s okay for it to be a battle as long as you get up and fight your hardest every day.

You’re your worst critic. Something that is very uncontrollable that I recognize about myself is that when I want something I WILL GET IT. Period. I don’t know how I do it every time. But I do it every time.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

I feel like each day I get closer to perfecting my craft. I want to always be getting better at what I do and not be satisfied with “good enough”. I feel like I am genuine and relatable and that’s what fans love.

What are your plans for the near future?

My plans for the near future are to continue to release music to my fans and stay interacted creating and branding my name so when you hear the name Luna Bby, everyone is familiar. Stay tuned for my EP MoonChild.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

I just want to thank my amazing support system- you know who you are. But special thanks to my manager and my best friend and lover for always supporting me and being my number one fan. Anyone who’s been riding with me since the beginning has a special place in my heart.

How can fans find you?

Fans can find me on Instagram @lunalunabby which is also my twitter handle and they can add me on Snapchat @mesiforever.

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

NEVER GIVE UP. I swear if you just TRY you will see results. You’ll get what you put into it but you have to want it bad enough.
