In the Spotlight, IVA

You’ve been making some big moves with your music career; how does it feel to finally see a great deal of traction after so much hard work?

GREAT question. I have been able to meet kindred spirits with whom to work these past years and am grateful to have met these people thanks to sharing more of what I am doing with the world. I feel satisfied knowing that people truly do love the music and I can better reach them now thanks to good colleagues. I feel so much love being part of a community of creators with whom I resonate.

As an artist, what has been your biggest struggle in getting to where you are now?

It took me a while to understand and accept that I was an artist. I was quite successful academically when I was younger and considered other careers, yet singing was always my passion and what I chose to do spontaneously. After losing my mother and living for years as a victim of domestic abuse from an intimate partner who asked me to give up singing, I realized that my family and my gifts made it possible for me to live as a musician, and that gives me a rich and unique experience of the world that I can embrace instead of feeling “different”. Now I live trusting my artistry, and I can feel that that is who I am.

What’s been your biggest motivator? What’s you’re WHY? Why do you do what you do?

I am completely in love with music and have been my entire life. It helps me understand humanity, and it gives me a feeling like nothing else. I voraciously listen to music and when I was able to create my own and liked what I heard, I knew it was what I had to do in life.

Can we get some insights on what you have developing for your fans this year? Are there any new music or upcoming projects in the works?

We have recorded a music video for “Run” and director Camille Natta and cinematographer Francisco Bulgarelli created gorgeous footage that captures the true essence of IVA and the song. I can’t wait to share it with everyone. I also have a new EP called “Nobody’s Woman” coming and am writing a crossover opera as well. We just had the first reading of the libretto and it felt so good to do something completely new and spread my creative wings. We’re also booking a tour, so stay tuned.

If you can give any advice to other artists looking to get their name out there, what would you tell them?

Share what you are doing with as many people as you can. You may feel shy about doing it, but your fans will be thrilled to know what you are doing. You can also feel proud that you are a creator generating art for the world. We need this kind of energy more than ever.
