Drew Ramz talks about his current music project, greatest challenges and more

How did you come by your stage name?

My name is Andrew Ramsarran but no one ever calls me Andrew and in the military, no one ever calls me Ramsarran. I’m either called Drew or Ramz….so I just put them together…Drew Ramz.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I was really shy as a kid & I didn’t have a lot of friends. My Mom thought it’d be a great idea to put an introvert into theatre, and she was right. I came out of my shell, fell in love with performing and music, & made life-long friends. Music in my mind has always been key to me breaking out of my shell & I’ve always pursued it, but in 2018 I decided to go for it after going to a Macklemore concert. He just looked like he was having so much fun up there and I wanted that! So I started writing and here I am.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I’ve never been an artist to stay in one niche. I love trying new things with music all the time, expanding my range from genre to genre. My biggest critic is my wife and she has pushed me continuously try new music & she’ll tell me when something is bad. So yeah, my wife for sure.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

“Wasted Away” is my newest single getting ready to drop on August 21st. Since COVID-19, I’ve been stuck at home as a stay at home dad, and don’t get me wrong I love my kids, but there was a part of me that wanted to be wasted away on the beach, free of all these problems that were going on in life. “Wasted Away” came from those thoughts mixed with incredible memories made with my best friend Alex Scott, who I collaborated with to make this track!

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

I think one of my greatest challenges has to be finding that balance. I’m an Airmen in the Air Force, I’m a husband, and I’m a father & those things come first. Once my job is done, my wife is happy, and my kids are asleep, that’s when I get the chance to focus on music. It’s definitely difficult, but my wife is supportive, and let’s me take that time at night to work on my passion, which is music.

I think my greatest attribute is my ability to be versatile and try new things. I often tell myself that I make music that corresponds with my life story and not every chapter of my life calls for a rap song. Some stories call for pop songs, some call for country songs, some call for ballads. It just depends on what the story dictates. I never let a beat decide, my story always comes first.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

No. Absolutely not. I’m not bad, but I have a long way to go until I can get my craft to where I want it to be. I’m still a young artist and I’m still trying to find my voice as a performer.

What are your plans for the near future?

Well, I have about 25 songs in the queue that are in post-production, so once those are mix and mastered, I’m going to start working on the next 25. My team will work on the release schedule and marketing, my goal right now is to work on making the music.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

My Mom, my wife, my family, and my two boys, Andy and Anthony. They are my inspiration. Also my best friend, Alex Scott (Alex Markowitz). We started this journey together and I couldn’t have done any of this without him.

How can fans find you?

You can find me on all streaming platforms! Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Tidal, Amazon Music, Google Play. You can google “drew ramz” and it’ll take you to wherever you need to listen to me! You can also add me on instagram.com/_drewramz

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

Respect the process. 20% of being a musician is actually making music. That’s the fun part, that’s the part that keeps me coming back. Advertising, promoting, mixing, mastering, post-production, selling your music, that’s the 30% you really have to work at. You are your biggest advocate and if you don’t believe in your stuff, no one else will. That last 50% is having the guts to do it! Know that the track that you’re sitting on is a banger! Just trust yourself.
