Interview with Trespeace

How did you come by your stage name?

My real name is Lawrence Oliver III. My parents have been calling me Tres (“Trey”) since I was born because I am the third. When I started rapping and producing I wanted to put a spin on the phrase “Trey Piece”. So I got “trespeace” out of it. I changed the spelling of piece because peace is something I’m passionate about. Shout out to my brother Mac who suggested that name!

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

The concept of my project is a Beat/Instrumental album. I study and emulate some of the greatest producers from Kanye West, Kid Cudi, J Dilla, & The Neptunes. I really admire how Kanye West and J Dilla would make beat tapes or beat albums full of their latest beats.

They didn’t have the internet and beat selling platforms like we do today so this was a great way of getting their art in the hands of artists who would be interested in their beats. I want to keep that tradition going even down to the number of songs I chose. J Dilla would always have 24 songs on his beat tapes, so I went with 24.

The name of the project is “Does trespeace Make Beats? Vol I” obviously it indicates that there will be more, and “Does trespeace Make Beats?” is my producer tag (spoken by my wife) which my fans have become quite accustomed to.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

My greatest challenge currently is resources. Anybody at this stage would desire for more/better hardware and software, better plug-ins, etc. But I tend not to dwell on that. I’m a strong believer in the Law of Attraction which states whatever you focus on expands. So I focus on being grateful for what I do have and making the best music possible with it.

My greatest attribute when it comes to my work ethic is having studied and mastered the piano and drums. It allows for ideas to flow freely and creative block to barely exist. My self-discipline teamed with talent and skill make for a quick turn around on collaborations, a lot of music for artists to choose from, and a wide variety of music for my fans to enjoy.

How can fans find you?

You can find me everywhere. I am streaming on all major platforms. I am on all social media sites under “trespeace“. LinkedIn as Lawrence Oliver III and my email is [email protected] if you are an artist looking to work.

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

My biggest suggestion is to complete what you start. Whether its an idea, a loop, an entire song, or an entire project. That is the only way to set yourself up to have something to show the world. Do something, anything, every single day that leads you toward your goals, and make sure your goals lead you towards your life purpose.
