Har Bingo talks Music, Inspiration and Career
Hello, how are you doing? First, thank you for giving us this opportunity to interview an up-and-coming underground artist like you. Tell us about yourself, how did you start making music?
Thank you for letting me open up to the world. I am grateful to be here right now. I started making music like two years ago when I got into Jazz music. Jazz helps me focus when I am under pressure and because I always wanted to make music, I gave it a try.
You released your EP “The Richard Collection” earlier this year. Tell us more about the project and the vision behind it.
The Richard Collection is a project I used to experiment with and find my style. I really like slow and chill jazz, so there is this vibe in all tracks. I think there is a slight Hip-Hop influence because I grew up listening to Hip-Hop. That is where I recognized that vocals are not anything. The beat is the foundation.
So, you come from Hip-Hop but make Jazz music?
Yeah [laughs], I grew up listening to 50 Cent, Kanye, and later Drake, but Jazz is the only genre that balances out my life. I also used to listen to swiss rap.
Right, you come from Switzerland. Tell us more about your heritage.
My father is Asian, and my mother is Swiss. I was born in the United States, but my family moved to Switzerland when I was still young. Because my parents never lost contact with the families of my friends in America, I still have contact and go there often. Sometimes I miss the U.S.
Very interesting. What is the music production process for you?
I always need a vision first. I get a vision for a song by listening to other music or visiting nature. When I have a rhythm or drum line in my head, I start creating the song. This might take days or weeks; I am a perfectionist. After the final master, my publisher REWAVE Distribution helps me get the music to Spotify and other platforms.
How did you find out about REWAVE Distribution?
I actually came across their YouTube video, where they teased their service. At first, I was not sure, but after some research, I decided to register myself on their website. The further processes went quickly and after a couple of hours, I was able to use their platform.
Why did you select REWAVE over the other distribution services?
They seemed to be genuine at what they do. Sure, the other firms have a bigger customer base and reputation, but their quick response and pricing system gave me a good vibe. I love how they keep their Instagram account and the posts they create. As I am from Switzerland as well, I can relate to them.
Good for them. Did any label ever approach you or have you always been independent?
As a matter of fact, I have always been independent. A good friend of mine was signed to a local record label. He was mistreated and almost never was paid on time. He was stuck with the contract for an entire year and was bound to them. I decided to remain independent, since the beginning. Many do not understand the obligations that come along with this kind of a contract.
Surprising, tell me more about this.
You know [sighs], my goal has never been the whole fame and world tour thing. I am not that kind of guy who posts daily Instagram stories to show off some jewelry or food I am eating. To be honest, I disconnected myself from most social media accounts and even deleted my Instagram. I feel it to be a continuous distraction.
Where would you like to be in your career five years from now?
Honestly, I don’t know. Music has always been a hobby, but I never thought of doing this full-time.
Thank you for this great interview and stay healthy!
Thank you!
