The Betsy (thebetsyhotel.com), a luxury family-owned and operated hotel on Miami Beach known internationally as a hub for arts, culture, and community, is hosting the 10th Annual Overture to Overtown (OTO) Jazz Festival, in celebration of National Jazz Appreciation Month (“JAM”) from April 1-April 30, 2022 on Miami Beach.

Proud to be joining with other national jazz presenters, the hotel’s month-long program co-produced with Carol Ann Taylor, includes over 40 live performances, curated community conversations, curated outdoor exhibits, and the exhibition, Sounds of FREEDOM.

6 PM to 9 PM– Danny Mixon Trio w/ Spoken word artist Rebecca Butterfly Vaughns and vocalist Carole Ann Taylor. Presented with support from the Southeast Overtown Park West CRA

11 AM to 4 PM – Brian Murphy, solo jazz piano
6 PM to 9 PM – Danny Mixon trio with spoken word artist Rebecca Butterfly Vaughns

WHY?

This month-long 46-event program for The Betsy Hotel’s 10th Annual Overture to Overtown (OTO) Jazz Festival pays tribute to the historic connections between South Florida jazz and the National historic jazz circuit which brought musicians who played in New York City’s Harlem to The Harlem of the South (AKA Overtown).

Culminating programs on April 29-May 1, featuring Harlem born legacy jazz pianist Danny Mixon will take place at The Betsy-South Beach, the Red Rooster in Overtown, the Ocean Drive Promenade The Betsy’s 10th Annual OTO Festival was co-produced by noted jazz singer Carole Ann Taylor and Dr. Deborah Briggs, Betsy Hotel VP of Arts & Community, with guidance from a community advisory committee, and support from wide-ranging sponsors/ global jazz peers celebrating International Jazz Day on April 30, and National Jazz Appreciation Month (April 1-30, 2022)
