Interview with Latin American artist and actor JAB the ZORRO

Interview with Latin American artist and actor JAB the ZORRO

How did you come by your stage name?

My artist name is JAB the ZORRO. JAB are my initials: John Anthony Bonilla and ZORRO is a Latin superhero type that I admired as a kid.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I’ve always been a big fan of music. Headphones in all-day type of guy. It wasn’t until after college that I pursued an acting career which then leads me to music.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

It’s definitely a fusion. Coming from a Latin background, there are a lot of sounds I hear and associate with music. Then on the flip side, I was in Queens, NY. A lot of hip-hop, rap, middle eastern sounds even Asian music.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

My next single, coming out this Friday 8/7. Is called Impulso. The translation for it is “impulse.” I created this song exactly on that vibe. Random sparks of creativity. How I feel also at the moment. I wanted the sound to move you and make you want to just let loose for the 2:55 seconds that it lasts.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

I absolutely overthink. Sometimes the music is ready to go and I’m still nitpicking. It’s really true what they say about being your own worst critic. I’m a hustler and a hard worker 100 percent. You fuse those together and honestly, things get done fast.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

I don’t know if this the right way to answer that but I never give up. I think that is quality I have no problem bragging about. If there is a goal in mind, I need to see it through.

What are your plans for the near future?

Definitely dropping more music. I already ideas for a concept EP/album. It’s a matter of the timing being right,

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

So many people. Off the top of my head, my producer BLVCK 95, my publicist Michael Monroe, My photographer, and friend Jan Rattia.

How can fans find you?

I’m on all streaming services. I have a website (jabthezorro.com), I’m very active on social media, in particular Instagram @jabthezorro

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

Let’s innovate. It’s an open playing field. Why stick to just one thing?
