Prior to leading Firey Holdings Group, Atticus served as Chief Strategy Officer at Blue River Interactive, a Sacramento-based developer of marketing infrastructure and content management technologies, where he successfully directed brand strategy and target acquisitions. His career path also includes the role of President and Chief Operating Officer of Meguiar’s, Inc. Under his leadership, he propelled annual sales growth from $27M to $280M, culminating in the #1 market share position globally, before being acquired by 3M for $980M.
As head of a record label, talent manager, executive producer at major Hollywood movie studio, consumer electronics strategy guru, last year’s (confidential) acquisition of a global fashion brand, and two other confidential equity interests in the “Health, Beauty, and Wellness” category, I’m fascinated to know how you possibly answer the typical question everyone asks when meeting titans of industry such as yourself?
Ah that’s kind, but your making me sound too grand and complex; quite simply, I’ve assembled a collection of companies crossing multiple sectors, while providing leadership for the highly talented management teams responsible for the day-to-day operations spanning the globe.
How did you get into music and entertainment?
That’s a very interesting question, because I would love to say that it was a grand master plan, that I spent time strategically plotting its course, but the reality is it happened over the years, through a variety of circumstances allowing my preparation to merge with rare opportunities, and the rest is history they say.
As an example, Snoop Dogg and I owned a consumer product company in the automotive space, subsequently evolving into a record label I ran as CEO, alongside one of Dogg’s artists from The Dogg Pound. Randomly last year launching my new artist at the Billboard Music Awards, I was recruited as the new Executive Producer at a highly respected media & film studio. Awesome, yet unconventional, situations such as these few examples, can’t realistically ever be planned for intentionally.
What’s your next ambition?
Currently developing the first US-based entertainment agency & multi-media digital platform, dedicated to curate, distribute, and publish Latin influenced content and experiences, such as music, movies, and lifestyle events. This robust “Incubator” will specialize in developing a new upcoming community of creative talent, intended to satisfy recently exploding demand, now defined as “mainstream”.
What do you accredit your success, in spite of spanning multiple business sectors?
I don’t view companies based upon the product or service they offer, I focus on consumers. A company could be selling anything from toothpicks to tampons, but my constant obsession and focus are keenly on consumer behavior, which consistently operates in predictable patterns of repetition, making the products/industry irrelevant in my ability to connect with the consumer emotion and intellect.
