Exclusive interview with Lindsay Wilkins-Mulder
How did you come by your stage name?
Lindsay Mulder or Lindsay Wilkins-Mulder. I use both.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
My parents were musicians, so I grew up with a love for music. As I got older, songwriting and music, in general, became my outlet. It was an escape from the rocky environment in which I lived. It played a huge part in my life of dysfunction.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I grew up immersed in several genres, particularly southern rock, country, and alternative. I remember that I would go into my little room in the trailer and listen to “The Downward Spiral” by Nine Inch Nails on repeat. I was a misfit in the land of misfits. That’s how I coped.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
I have a few projects going at the moment. One is a country single, which I hope to be completed within the next month. I seldom do covers, but I am working on acoustic versions of a couple of well-known songs.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
I think my greatest challenge hesitancy. A lot of artists tend to be unsure of themselves and their work at times.
As it was once told to me: “Everybody is going to put out songs that simply tank. Not everything you do needs to be perfect. It can’t be. Accept that and just keep going.”
I’d like to say that I’m pretty resilient. I try to keep moving forward. I know that my past is reflected in some of my work. And that’s okay. Maybe it will reach someone who finds themselves in the music…someone like me.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I’m fairly good at networking. I admit that when I ventured back into music, after the Army, I was a bit shocked by the new technology. When I was younger, we were very poor, so our jam sessions were recorded with a literal tape recorder. Now, the world has evolved and my tenacity forces me to learn as much as I can as fast as I can.
What are your plans for the near future?
My plans include the new release coming up. I’m laying a base for a record label. Giving new artists a hand up in promoting their dreams is something that I want to be in a position to do.

My family, friends, and fellow veterans have been an incredible source of strength to me. They all deserve a star in the sky.
