Meet Monica Pinto “Hypmosis” – Mastermind Behind Mary J Blige & DJ Khaled’s Casting

Monica Pinto, better known on set as “Hypmosis,” is the Founder and CEO of Hypmosis Visuals | Casting. She is a casting director, producer, and Co-Founder of NJFW. She has been in the entertainment industry since she was about 4 years old, starting off as a child actor on Nickelodeon, to a teenage actor on MTV and TLC, and working her way up to the executive level as a casting director and executive producer of NYFW.

Hypmosis oversees the overall productions, as well as casts the models. She is currently the casting director for artists such as DJ Khaled, Mary J Blige, J Balvin, J Cole, Karol G, Moneybaggyo, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, SAINt JHN, Lil Tjay among many others. In addition, Monica casts models for high fashion luxury brands, from Gucci to HBA. She works very often with VaynerMedia, Gary Vaynerchuk’s company, as their casting director on projects. She is currently casting for a feature film shooting on the East Coast, as well as NYFW, so if you’re interested in auditioning for either project, make sure to check out her updates on IG @hypmosis.

How did you come by your brand name?

“Hypmosis” My nickname on set started off as “Mo.” While in the entertainment industry, I would also paint a lot and create a bunch of art that most people described as “hypnotizing.” Being in the film industry and being a part of some creative and unique projects, my nickname “Mo” and my “hypnotizing” art merged and people started calling me “Hypmosis.” People who have known me for a long time (when I first started out in this industry) still call me “Mo,” but people I met more recently now call me “Hypmosis.”

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I started in this industry at a very young age. I began as a child actor when I was about 4 years old. I did a bunch of commercial work and a lot of work on Nickelodeon. I was homeschooled and everything. As I grew up, throughout my teenage years I did some work with MTV. When I was 15, I started working as an assistant to a casting director. That introduced me to the behind-the-scenes and production life, and I completely fell in love with it.

Even though I started young in the industry, I still went to school. I was always what they call a “nerd” growing up. AP Physics in high school was my favorite class (I chose it as an elective). In University, I studied Philosophy, Italian, Cognitive Science, and Biomedical Engineering. I love Languages, Mathematics, and Physics. I believe it’s of extreme importance to exercise the full potential we, as humans have. It is incredibly crucial to me to be a well-rounded individual, and that’s what I strive to become.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

Some of the greatest challenges in this industry have to do with the high demand for work after sleepless nights of work. At first, it can definitely seem draining, but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature to you. You grind until you’re done with the project, and then you can relax for a couple of days (sometimes), and then get right back to it. (I bring my brother, Nicholas Pinto, along with me to many sets and he helps me with production)!

The key is learning how to master the art of balancing out the different aspects of your life, and honestly, if you truly adore what you do, the sleepless work nights are 100% worth it, and they’re not something you hate. You actually look forward to them.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

I definitely know I am fantastic at what I do, but I do not want to undermine the work of everyone else in the industry. I would be nothing without my cast, the crew I work with, the artists we work with, and all of the people who believe in us. WE are the best AS A TEAM.
