“JOSH” Interview with Muzique Magazine

How did you come by your stage name?

Josh is my real first name and Darcy was a random name that I chose to be honest. I was looking through different names and one day I was like “Next name I come across imma just rock with it”. And “Darcy” was it. Very random but I just kept it because it sounded dope to me.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I’ve always had a love and appreciation for music. I would say my junior year of High School I was intrigued by it more and started writing. Then the summer going into college, I started taking music a little more seriously. And that’s when I knew I wanted to pursue it. Every day I always worked on creating songs and that lead me to where I am today.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I would first say, my parents. They listened to a lot of R&B, Gospel, Rap, and Neosoul. Those different styles of music inspired me to express emotions as honestly and as vividly as possible. It made me want to convey messages that meant something as clear as possible. And currently, I would say Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick, I listen to the most and I feel those 3 ppl are my biggest influencers music-wise from high school and on.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

My current project is still in progress. I’ve been focused on individual songs. But the concept of my project mostly came from where I’m at now. Just doing all you can to pursue something that most ppl are afraid of. The process of chasing your dream and all the doubt, discouragement, judgment, fear, motivation, dedication, etc. that comes with it. It’s pretty broad but it all makes sense in my mind lol.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

The greatest challenge is staying in the moment. It’s easy to think ahead of where you should be, but the process is the process. Gotta appreciate the moment and the journey more. It’s all worth it. As far as work ethic, it comes from my parents. They worked hard to get where they’re at and that instilled my drive to truly follow my dreams.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

Mentally I believe I am, I still have to prove it though. Once my consistency and catalog grows it will show with time.

What are your plans for the near future?

Working on a lot of music videos and releasing singles. Also working on project as well. And keep applying pressure and growing daily in the pursuit of my dream.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

Shoutout to God, my parents, family, friends, for the support and motivation.
