When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I am a trained chef and have been touring as a chef with various musical artists for the past 15 years. I have a lot of downtimes when on the road so I would often explore cities that my clients were performing in and most times I could find a record store where I could buy and check out records.
I always played music while I cook and one day at an event a DJ showed up late I filled in as a joke but the crowd really responded to what I was playing.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I have a very eclectic style of djing. But I would have to say I was heavily influenced by David Mancuso of The Loft, Car Cox, and Tony Humphries. They all have different styles but I love the relationship that each one of them has with music.
On your upcoming current project, how did you come up with the concept?
My current project that I have been working on for a couple of years. It is called Culture Detectives. It takes a look at historical slave narratives ( which are interviews by slaves) and personal stories of slaves in the Caribbean and in the United States and me with the help of some other amazing DJs create a modern musical soundtrack to their words.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
My greatest challenge was traveling to small towns and cities searching local records and documents and staying focused on finding the stories that need to be shared. The research for this project took nearly 3 years so every day was a different experience.
Everyone has an amazing story and hopefully I was able to find some that will inspire and motivate people when they check out the project.
What are your plans for the near future?
My plan for the next year is touring the USA to support this project as well as Europe. It is an amazing and transformative experience to see the Culture Detectives performed live.
How can fans find you?
