Floyd is a San Francisco Bay Area music artist who has been pushing past the limitations and antiquated thinking for the better part of two decades. This 21st-century maverick has been singing, writing, performing and playing music long enough to know that the cost of not pursuing a dream outweighs the sometimes painful realities of modern life as an artist.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
Since I was a five-year-old I always loved singing, dancing and putting on a show. By early Jr. High I knew I had to do this full time. It was like a calling; the only thing that lit me up.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I am very eclectic; I love pop, rock, country – my style is probably most influenced by U2, REM, Tori Amos – the indie/pop of the 90s.
On your upcoming project, how did you come up with the concept?
It wasn’t so much of a concept as a collection of new material, all around the same themes of courage, love, and longing.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
It’s always a challenge to stay connected to myself, my inner me, which is always where the best writing is. My work ethic is to live it, love it, own it – at all times.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
No, there’s always room for improvement. All I can hope for is to be the best version of myself and put my best work out there.
What are your plans for the near future?
I’m currently working on the full launch for Floyd Music.com, which will come with several new songs. I’ll be working on a video or two, and building a fan base. Music is not as fun if you don’t have anyone to share it with.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
I’d like to thank Bono for being an artistic inspiration.
How can fans find you?
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Always stay completely true to who you are, who you want to be and that means pursuing what truly makes you complete. Music is a gift that brings life to the souls of others, so never give up, give in or allow doubt to an author who you are.
