Interview: Kristina Murrell Talks About Her New Music Video – “Got Me Dreaming”

R&B singer-songwriter Kristina Murrell recently released the music video for “Got Me Dreaming,” a track from her album, Passion & Pain.

Originally from Barbados, Kristina moved to the U.S. in 2015, where she caught the attention of Music For Love, who signed her, along with a production deal with Music By King Inc.

With her plush voice and affluent R&B sound, Kristina appears to be ready to top the charts.

The video for “Got Me Dreaming” depicts Kristina succumbing to the thrill and anticipation of new love. Viewers watch the happy couple get to know each other, taking walks, and enjoying nights out. Then things change. Kristina discovers her beau is a philandering two-timer.

Knowing she deserves better, she releases herself from the relationship, realizing he will continue to be a heart breaker.

Low-slung and velvety, “Got Me Dreaming” rolls out on sensuous textures topped by Kristina’s alluring voice. It’s a deluxe voice full of enticing hues.

Muzique Magazine spoke with Kristina Murrell to find out more about the person behind the music, her influences, and what the future holds for her musically.

What three things can’t you live without?

Music, Family, Food.

What inspired your new single/music video “Got Me Dreaming?”

My single “Got Me Dreaming” was inspired by the feeling of how great things may seem at the beginning of a relationship.

What do you hope your fans/listeners take away with them when they listen to your music?

I hope that listeners are really able to connect and relate to my music as it expresses true emotions and circumstances that truly happen to most people at some point in their lives.

How did you get started in music? What’s the backstory there?

I really got serious with music about a year ago when my stepdad got me connected with my now manager/producer Sonny King, who was able to give me the guidance I needed to really take music to the next level.

Which musicians/vocalists influenced you the most?

Artists that I’m really influenced by are singers like Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, and Rihanna, who like me was born in Bridgetown, Barbados!

Which artists are you listening to right now?

Right now, I’m currently listening to my album Passion & Pain over and over again to prepare for live shows when things get back to normal.

You’re originally from Barbados. What’s the music scene like in Barbados?

The music scene in Barbados is great because it’s really diverse and genres like Reggae, Soca, Pop, and R&B are some of the most popular.

Your latest album is entitled Passion & Pain. What can you share about the album?

My album, Passion & Pain, tells the story of both sides of a relationship, the good and the bad, something I believe the audience can really relate to.

Any advice for young female artists just getting started?

Yes, be consistent, confident, and work hard if music is what you really want to do in life!

Why do you make music?

It brings me peace and it’s the way I truly get to express myself.

What’s next for you?

Continuing to become better, really working on myself, and perfecting what I love to do as I learn more about music!
