Interview with Up and Coming Hip Hop Artist Shae G
How did you come by your stage name?
I’m known as Shae to everyone, which is short for Sheila (my legal name) so that was a given. The “G” was added later in because when I used to rap as a kid most people would say “oh she’s a G!” because of my raw and hardcore personality when I was rapping. Something about rapping brings out the gangster side of me so I decided to call myself “Shae G.”
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
Singing came naturally to me ever since my childhood. I would listen to a song and start to sing along and that made people take notice. I was encouraged daily, to sing and people would love it when I did. By the age of 6, I knew I had something special but I was so shy and never wanted to sing in front of people, only in the shower or in the mirror when nobody was around except for my family, who I felt the most comfortable with.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I give most of my style and credit to the late Aaliyah and Lil Kim. Both artists had something special that made me want to imitate the way they performed. Aaliyah influenced my singing and Lil Kim made me want to rap. They are both legends in the industry and definitely had a lot to do with paying the way for me to be able to do what I do now.
On your upcoming project, how did you come up with the concept?
Libra 2 Gemini was inspired because I feel like there are a few multiple personalities in every one of us. My birthday is in September so I’m already a Libra. However, there is either side of me that represents a Gemini, in the way that they are always twinning and switching up a lot on the people closest to them.
With a Gemini, you never know which side of them you are going to get, and I feel like that is an accurate representation of who I am most of the time. One minute I am this loving and genuinely caring person who puts everyone else’s needs before her own, and goes and beyond for people, the next minute I’m a crazy and unstable, more unpredictable version of myself that people don’t seem to recognize. I go from Libra 2 Gemini real quick!
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
The biggest challenge I face as an artist is being consistent with my music and not letting my fears of being an introvert get the best of me.
Like I stated before I am very shy and I don’t like to do things in front of people. But once I get passed that discomfort I begin to unravel and the artistry flows right out of me and I deliver and give 100% of myself. I work hard in everything that I do so once I get started, there’s no stopping me.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I am not the best at what I do because there are many great artists before me that are far beyond what I have ever done and I won’t make any false claims to being the best, I know I’m not there yet.
However I know I have the potential to be the best, with due time and continuous focus and hard work, I have no doubts that I will be in a league of my own one day.
What are your plans for the near future?
My plans for the future include continuing to write and sing so that I can develop myself further as an artist, and maybe one day being seen as one of the legends in the game. I am very passionate about music and I can’t see myself ever giving that up, so I know Shae G. is here to stay, and I’m excited to show the world what I have to offer.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Yes! I have to give my biggest thank you to my 3 kids who have always pushed me to be the best version of myself no matter what I do in life. I truly wouldn’t be who I am without them, I love them so much!
Also, I want to thank everyone who believed in me since my younger days of singing in the bathrooms with my eyes closed and to those who support me now and see my true potential. I couldn’t see myself doing any of this without their love and motivation.
How can fans find you?
My fans can find me on social media at,

What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
My biggest suggestion would be to remain true to who you are and don’t fall for the hype of all the trends and propaganda that the media tries to push on you. Being authentic is priceless.
