JonPaul Wallace Interview with Muzique Magazine
How did you come by your stage name?
I go by my legal name JonPaul Wallace.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I discovered my love for music around age 7 because my older sister Rocky Wallace had gotten into it so I was always around it. I saw her performing and singing and I absolutely admired it. Plus my parents used to show us concert videos of bands like Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, etc. and I always thought the idea of performing in front of massive crowds would be incredible.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I pull inspiration from a lot of artists, including Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Shawn Mendes, John Mayer, Billie Eilish, Frank Ocean, and many more. I am a huge fan of Motown and frequent the Motown Museum often especially when I’m working on a new project. It is my number one go-to for inspiration. I love the energy of the Motown Museum and as a songwriter I leave feeling inspired and emotionally embedded with sparks of creativity.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
“One Day” was written to be an optimistic take on being in the “friend zone”. It is about enjoying every moment you get to share with someone, while in the back of your mind hoping that someone will eventually become more than friends. This concept was inspired by the real emotions I was feeling at the time.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
I would say my biggest challenge is living in a small town because it makes it more challenging to keep up on current trends in music, fashion, and culture in general. But my greatest attribute is my overwhelming love for music. I love everything about being a musician and even just listening to music. This passion drives me to keep improving my craft and push for new heights.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I am the best I have ever been at what I do. I try not to compare myself to others, but rather who I was and where I was a year ago or even a month ago. I can feel myself growing and getting better every day and as I release more music I think that will become apparent.
What are your plans for the near future?
I plan on releasing two EP’s before the end of 2021, and some more big announcements coming soon!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
I definitely want to thank my family for being my greatest support system, as well as my managers Frankie Jason Turner and Tommy Valentino for pushing me to grow into the artist I am becoming.
How can fans find you?
I am on all social media platforms as:
Facebook: @jonpaulwallaceofficial
Twitter/Instagram/Tiktok: @jonpaulwallace
Spotify/Apple Music/Youtube/etc.: JonPaul Wallace
What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?
The most important thing I have learned is to love the process and not fixate on the results. The work becomes a lot easier when you love it.
