Interview with Ireland Based Band Dreams Of Freedom
Dreams Of Freedom are a Ballad Folk and Rebel band who hails from Co Kerry in the southwest of Ireland. Dreams Of Freedom strive on their commitment to carrying on the proud culture and traditions of Ireland through songs and stories. Having a great time and enjoying the experience of one of our gigs is very much our number one priority.
Dreams Of Freedom work hard promoting the culture of Ireland through songs and music. This is one of their passions, telling the story of Irish history through song and music and in their own small part trying to preserve the long history of Ireland, from Famines and Rebellions to old stories and songs
How did you come by your band name?
That’s an easy one, Richie’s father who is a well known and respected musician wrote a song in the 1980s which was titles Dreams Of Freedom. So we just chose that title and used it as we liked the sound of it!!
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
Well, to be honest, the three of us came from different bands to create this one. We all started playing music at a young age and I suppose we are all lucky enough to be able to play music for a living.
A lot of the time it is not easy to keep the Wolfe from the door when you are a musician but thankfully there have been more good times than bad.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
We could say our style is unique, we all came from different backgrounds and listened to different genres of music. We take influences from all of that.
Being an Irish Ballad Folk and Traditional Band we use our culture and heritage to shape our sense of style as it has a great influence on us.
The Irish are well known for there culture and heritage and to be able to incorporate it in our musical sound and performance makes us very proud.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
Currently, we are gigging on our home soil. Our next adventure carries us to Germany for some Irish Culture and Heritage evenings where we will perform some of the much loved Irish songs and tunes. It’s not really a concept it just that is what we do and love doing it.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
To keep busy with the band at home and traveling abroad at various times during the year and build up a larger listening audience throughout the world are some of the greatest challenges.
The best attribute would be keeping the audience entertained wherever we are playing and to get them involved by singing and dancing to our live performances!
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
We consider ourselves as conveyors of the Ballad/Folk scene at home and abroad, we certainly try our best!!! All we want to do is spread the word about Ireland and it’s music.
To be afforded the opportunity to that makes us very proud. We always do the best we can whether we play to 5 people or 500 people, we treat every audience with the same respect. This is what we do best in our opinion!!
What are your plans for the near future?
We have some exciting times ahead for the band. Lots of tours coming up in Germany, Holland, Italy, The UK, and The USA. The Irish Diaspora reaches far and wide. We are delighted to be able to bring them a bit of Irish culture and heritage through our Irish traditional Music And Songs.
We also have some exciting gigs here at home including Puck Fair Festival in August and the Listowel Races in September as well as our regular gigs. We just brought out a new album and it’s going very well. Exciting times to be in!!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
We would just like to give a huge thanks to everyone who has supported us. All that have been at any of our gigs. It means the world to us that you would sit down and listen to us play and sing.
Thanks a lot for that!! Also a huge thanks our families and friends, without there support we would be stranded. Thanks, Everyone!!
How can fans find you?
That’s the easy part, our website is

And we are on Spotify too.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
It’s not easy but the hard work is worth every ounce of sweat and tears. Just to feel the connection to an audience is beyond words. Keep going and never give up! Your dream is your dream and nobody has the right to take it away!! So Go For It!!
