Exclusive Jordan Olympus Interview with Muzique Magazine
How did you come by your stage name?
My inspirations come from mythology and folklore, I have always been interested in African and Greek mythology. I wanted my artist name to be mystical, so I mixed my name with the famous mount Olympus to create my name Jordan Olympus.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I was born in Madagascar, we really love to sing and there are many musicians in my family, I think that pushed me naturally on stage. I was a very energetic and talkative child, with so many things to express. I remember in high school when I performed in front of my entire school, that day I realized that music was the perfect way to share my energy, my creativity, and create connections with people, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in it.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I really think my sense of style is a result of my mixed origins, from Madagascar to Reunion island and all the travel I have made in my life in at least 25 countries. I grow up between African roots and European culture, I am feeling as close to African designers like the Ivoirian designer « Lafalaise Dion » than European designers like « Versace »
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
My EP “The Ascension” was born the day I realized that life is a journey with bad and good experiences. The title relates to my artist name inspired by Mount Olympus like a mountain to climb to reach the top. All my songs in “The Ascension” were made like a step to reach the summit of my own life. Each song is a way for me to grow and build myself. I knew that It could take a long time with ups and downs, but that is exactly the most interesting part, we have to keep climbing and enjoy the journey that is the ascension.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
I am proud to say that I can write, compose my own songs, and produce my own beats too. I can fully be invested in all the processes of creation. But I also know how to work with a team. My greatest challenge is learning to let go when the song is already good I have to stop looking for flaws, because as an artist sometimes I am never satisfied.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
In music, I always try my best, but I have always something new to learn to do better and better. My future songs have to be better than before, which means that I am not the best yet and that is awesome because if you think you have reached the best you will have nothing newer to propose.
What are your plans for the near future?
After more than a year without performing on stage, my plans are to perform more, doing festivals, share my music to connect with people, and of course, I am working now on my next music project, maybe an EP or an Album
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout-outs?
First, thank you for the interview. I would like to make a shout-out to my mom, thanks to her for giving me the strength I needed to do what I do today.
How can fans find you?
You can find me on Instagram most of the time @olympusjordan, I am on Facebook too as MusicJordanOlympus but my Youtube channel is the best way to discover my musical universe because I have already some music videos.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Never stop creating, because your music could help you, and help other people. Music is powerful.
