Upcoming artist “Woo” talks about current project, sense of style and more

How did you come by your stage name?

I got my stage name from my nickname. It’s a goofy story but when I was in high school I would see a really pretty girl and started saying “woo lord she looks good” or “woo she fine” and it kind stuck with me.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I discovered my love for music because my mother always had me in different groups and activities. Back then I didn’t like practicing anything. She had me on the piano and the alto saxophone. I’m thinking man I can sing I would much rather do that than carrying around equipment in middle school. After she signed me up for this Cinderella play for the summer camp I’ve been in love with singing ever since.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I don’t accredit my sense of style to anything or anyone in particular. I feel I dress depending on my mood. Sometimes I’m flashy. Sometimes I’m chilled.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

On my current project and actually my last my concept was around my wife. I even did my cover art for my single with her picture. I took this picture of her on a beach for our very first vacation and thought man how could I continue to admire this photo.

So I had a friend of mine who does cover art and does the photo in a cartoon style. My current project is help from a couple of people who we all have a sense of the same music style. Love and good vibes in what I like to bring to my music. The concept always leads back to the relationship though. The moods I’m in. I feel like my fans can relate to certain moods and feelings in a relationship.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

My greatest challenges are I feel I have to be a perfectionist. I get in my own way sometimes. I want everything to be perfect for my fans. My greatest attributes when it comes to my work in music is I always meet my deadlines. I work hard in the studio with my team day in and day out to make sure I push out the best part of me in my music. I’ll get to that studio for one song and end up loving the space I’m in and doing about 4 more.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

I am best at work at doing currently. However, there is always room for improvement. Discovering opportunities for growth is always on the table.

What are your plans for the near future?

My plans in the near future are to start touring around the world with my music. As well as landing an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres show. To be on her show as a guest is like a dream come true!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

I like to thank god for giving me a gift. Thank my mother for always keeping me sharp and giving me nothing but opportunities to grow. My wife always pushing me to do everything I can to be better. She always supports me. My wife will sit in that studio with me day in and day out.

Hour after hour. If she hears a note that’s off with my vocals she’s like “ nope again” or “ that note was off run it back from the beginning” I need that and she gives me everything I need she’s truly my number 1 fan. I want to shout out Elijah, and Brandin those guys help me stay creative. They help shape my concepts.

They are the best team I have including my producer Vegas! I appreciate them all. Lastly, I’d like to thank my best friend she was one of the first people in life that heard me sing. She’s always kept me encouraged with ideas.
