Mariachi Quinto Sol Interview with Muzique Magazine

How did you come by your stage name?

I chose Mariachi Quinto Sol sol after watching a documentary on YouTube late at night about the Spanish conquest of the Aztec empire in the 1520s. And how the natives had the legend of the Quinto Sol when Quetzalcoatl would return and how it coincided with Cortese’s arrival so that initially lead some to believe he was the old God.

Therefore made things harder for them. I thought it was very interesting and the name Quinto Sol sounded very catchy, commercial, and also had a very deep meaning. The next day I changed the group name to MQS

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

Growing up as a teenager performing in school and in our Lil kid group in gigs opened the world to music in general, the feeling of performing, and the spirituality of it all…I fell in love with the craft

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

Well, our sense of style results from a need to evolve, change, innovate and make Mariachi cool. The credit is teamwork, exchange of ideas among the members of the project as well

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

The concept was created when I noticed a gap in the industry, a blind spot where many groups were not reaching into creative musicians open to new sounds and fusions while not letting go of tradition. It was a good way to begin our musical journey.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

Challenges? We’ve had a few. One of the challenges has been putting a team together behind the project. Funding my own project has been quite challenging and another challenge is definitely being the “Jack of all trades,” and they’re all tied up to the fact that Mariachi Quinto Sol is an independent band.

To your second question, I think most of us (people humans)are not too kind to ourselves and we auto-criticize our flaws but very seldom do we acknowledge our strengths or attributes. Sometimes it takes family, friends; people close to you; peers who point them out to you. In my case, I think in Mariachi Quinto Sol’s case we have patience, dedication, open-mindedness, we are resilience. We have to be.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

that’s a great question to do some introspection and at this moment in time, we are giving the best of us but there’s always room for growth and we are striving each day to be the best that we can be in our recordings, our performances and as people in general.

What are your plans for the near future?

In the near future, we want to keep recording new music to establish and define our unique style. Continue to perform at venues known to different genres and put together a tour.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shoutouts?

shout out to all the fans who consistently show their support, the ones who have been there all along early on, as well as the new ones who have discovered our music recently; they’re all the fabric that keeps the band moving forward.

How can fans find you?

For our friends who would like to know who we are; discover our style; our sound and check out what we do, please look for us on our IG, Facebook, YouTube, Spotify as Mariachi Quinto Sol, and our website at mquintosol.com

What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?

For artists like ourselves, I will say: do not be afraid to take risks! Stay inspired, motivated, and hustle, hustle hustle.
