Processing grief is difficult for everyone. For Joesph Blue, processing through music has been the most healing way. Titled “Summer Nights Goodbye” the red dirt country track has been described as not just a song but a testimonial. It recaps the night a wife and mother passed and how her husband and children responded to it.

This track was written by Gary Gordeaux whose motto for songwriting is “Tell the truth and let it bleed.” Gary’s truth is that he couldn’t sleep for four days after his wife passed. She actually passed the day after their 19th anniversary which hurt Gary’s heart in an unfathomable way. Writing this testimonial was cathartic for him as he was able to express these emotions that he never imagined he would experience through the outlet of songwriting, which he knows very well.

He wrote this song to share his experience and didn’t care about following traditional song structures. His label Black Sheep Records Music LLC collaborated with Beard Music Group  who respected this. They understood that he wanted to share one of the most impactful moments of his life the exact way it happened. Gary knew that if he shared his story, he might help someone else process too.

“Sometimes life hands you stuff you can’t do anything about. No matter how hard it is, no matter how sad you may be, you can get through it. I want people to hear my story and realize there is light at the end of the tunnel.” he said.

Gary knows that life is tough and you can’t soften it. He knows that a person can decide how they will respond to a situation that they are in. He also knows that people will always go through situations and that the truth of reality will last forever. This truth always matters and he wants his music to continue to be shared by people who are going through the reality of life.

Family is one of the most important things in life for Gary. He’s carrying the legacy of this importance by releasing this song and continuing to release music that is just as vulnerable. He wants to leave a legacy for his children through his music but also have them be a part of the legacy themselves. His father was a songwriter and he has fond memories of being watched by his grandfather after school in the swamps of Morgan City, Louisiana.

“Family is there to pick you up and encourage you. I remember my dad and his brother buying groceries for my grandfather before his disability money started coming in. My wife’s aunt paid for the funeral because we didn’t have life insurance. Her aunt raised her like a daughter after her brother passed. She told me this is what family is about.” he said.

Many of Gary’s songs are written from a place of truth because he knows there will always be people who will identify with the stories he tells. He has music coming that continues the narrative of “Summer Nights Goodbye” as he wonders what his wife is doing in her afterlife.

Gary also understands sometimes people are in the mood for a different kind of material and he has songs in that lane too.

“Music helps moods. It can bring you up or bring you down. It all depends on the situation. I have other songs  that are more ‘commercial’ but I wanted to release this one first because this is my story. This is my truth.” he said.
