A new collaborator can open up an entirely different side of a song. Jessica Chaz explores that possibility on River (Steve Kroeger Remix), joining forces with Steve Kroeger to take her original track into a fuller blend of easy listening pop and melodic house. Sun drenched in its direction and rooted in her emotionally focused songwriting, the release expands the world of “River” through a fresh creative partnership.
The remix is the second single in Chaz’s River remix rollout, following the warmer, stripped back Summer Version. This time, the story centers on collaboration. Kroeger’s involvement as a co-producer helps broaden the track’s sound, bringing a more expansive pop and electronic treatment to material first released on Chaz’s 2023 River EP. The result represents a new stage in a rollout built around exploring how one song can develop through different interpretations.
For Chaz, working across creative perspectives is a familiar part of making music. The Durban born, Vancouver based singer, songwriter and producer draws from pop, soul, jazz and electronic music, with recent projects connecting talent across South Africa, Canada, Brazil and the United States. The Steve Kroeger collaboration continues that interest in giving her songwriting new possibilities through shared production.
Her path to this point began on stages in South Africa with her first band, Seasons. The group performed at the Centre for Jazz & Popular Music and headlined events during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. After moving to Canada, Chaz appeared at Vancouver’s MIX Showcase in 2014 and performed at Canadian Music Week in Toronto in 2019. Those experiences form the background to a career that now moves between live performance, songwriting, production and independent releases.
The new interpretation of “River” arrives during a period of audience growth. Chaz surpassed one million streams across streaming platforms in May 2026, followed by one million views on her Official Artist Channel on YouTube in July. By September, her total audio streams stood at approximately 1.4 million. The milestones give context to a remix series that offers listeners several ways into the same song.
An accompanying official music video, created in house by Moodlab Music, adds a visual component to the release. Within the wider River series, the Kroeger remix marks the move from the Summer Version’s opening statement into a fuller collaborative sound, with further reimaginings extending the project across four singles.
