Interview With Up and Coming Artist Gregg James

Who is he you may ask? Gregg is a talented singer and songwriter looking to break out on the scene. It all started with his love for music at a very young age. Over time he worked on developing his craft to become a stronger singer and stronger songwriter.

He is currently working on his debut single “Half of Me” in the studio. He has been leaking bits and pieces of his debut single on his social media as of late and it can be described as soulful with an upbeat pace. We can’t wait to hear the record.

Upcoming plans hopefully soon are releasing an EP and possibly looking to tour with some bigger names. Whatever it is Gregg will keep you on the edge of your seat. You can follow his journey on all social media links below.

How did you come by your stage name?

It’s simple. My full name is Gregg James Hoeck. So, I’m just going by my first and middle name. If anything, I look at it as honoring my grandpa whose middle name is the same as mine. Plus, I love the sound of the name, it’s just so mysterious and powerful.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

It started at an early age. From singing in the mirror to the Backstreet Boys to my uncle playing guitar and me singing along. I just knew from an early age I wanted to do something with music. It took a bit of time for me to actually put my foot on the gas and a few let downs, but right now I love the direction I’m headed and I’m nothing but smiles over here.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I have a lot of influences as far musical talent goes. I really look up to artists like Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ne-Yo, and the Backstreet Boys. Newer artists I’d have to say, Bazzi, The Weeknd, and maybe Jake Miller. They’re all such different artists but I love the art they create.

On your upcoming project, how did you come up with the concept?

The project that I am currently finishing up on in the studio was brought on by actual life experience. The song is titled “Half of Me” I’ll admit it’s a little dirty but for those who know me I’m a passionate person. It’s about me wanting to take things to the next level with a girl.

She’s seen the good guy, now it’s time for her to see the bad guy. Again, it’s probably going to make people tell me I need Jesus or something, because of the explicit content but it’s a banger. You’ll be able to listen to it anywhere bedroom or not lol I think people will enjoy it.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

I would say one of the hardest things I deal with is self-confidence at times. I’ll admit some days it’s not easy to be me, but I wake up and just do it. I am my own worst critic and I know this but being around positive people who have the same goals as myself has really helped me with my weaknesses.

My greatest attribute would honestly be my passion. I love writing songs and singing. I practice every day on my vocals I practice every day with my writing. I strive for growth and I’m always looking to get better than I was the day before. My drive is what keeps me going.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

No definitely not the best. There are so many talented singers and songwriters out there, but I will say that I work hard like everyone else. I don’t want to be that person that needs to be better than everyone else. I just want to be the best version of me that I can be, and I’m fine with that.

What are your plans for the near future?

The current plan would have to be releasing my upcoming debut single “Half of Me” I am looking so forward to the release of this song. I mostly want people to see and feel my passion for this and understand that this is just the beginning. I’ve got other things on the table that I’m gathering up but I won’t release any of that info until a later date. Great things in the works though.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

Yes. There are quite a bit of people I’d love to thank. First off, I want to thank God for blessing me with the talents and abilities I have. I want to thank my mom who always stayed in my corner no matter what. My siblings, they’re honestly the greatest and I’m so thankful for all of them.

My fiancée is definitely owed a huge thanks. Recently she was the push I needed to start off this year on a strong note. I’m thankful to have her in my corner and I’m glad she’s right next to me on this journey. I definitely have to thank my best friend Trevor too.

We have been through so many ups and downs together and he’s always been right there pushing me to succeed as well, so thank you, man. Last and foremost I want to thank the team of producer’s engineers and artists I’ve been teamed up with during this beautiful process. If it wasn’t for the intelligent engineers and producers us singers/rappers wouldn’t have anything to work with, so big shout out to the team.

How can fans find you?

Anyone who is interested in following me on my musical journey can follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat. It’s very simple just type in “iamgreggjames” on all of those platforms and follow me. Oh except for Snapchat. That Name is “gjdo3” I’m pretty selective on who I decide to add on Snapchat though.

What suggestions do you have for another artist like yourself?

Keep grinding. No matter what anyone tells you never give up. I don’t care if someone tells you-you’re not good enough, you keep going. The negative things you have heard like not being good enough. I have heard it before myself and if anything that pushed me to want to be better. If I can do it you can too. Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.
