Interview with Brooklyn Based Hip Hop Artist The Samhain Hot
The Samhain Hot Hails From The Brooklyn Streets of Canarsie. Influenced By Some Of The Greatest Rappers & Singers Of All Time, From Jay Z to Michael Jackson He Breaches Musical Genres To Blending Every Musical Style Imaginable.
How did you come by your stage name?
I’m a big fan of the horror film genre. I got my name from watching the Halloween slasher series. Samhain was written on the school chalkboard in Halloween 2. The word “hot” in my name was added because some other band already had the name “Samhain” so I stood with “The Samhain Hot”.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I think I discovered my love for this craft at the tender age of 7. I can remember my uncle Ching a reggae singer. I watched him sing and write songs. That’s how I learned in the early days. By the age of 14, I was already writing songs every day and I knew I wanted to pursue music as a career and take it seriously.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I can definitely give Credit to my style To Michael Jackson, Prince. Bone Thugs N Harmony. Three 6 Mafia. Soft Cell, The Human League. Jay Z etc..I guess I listened to so many artists from a time different times & genres they all merged Into one style for me lol.
On your upcoming project, how did you come up with the concept?
The concept/title was taken from a scene in Halloween 6. I started writing & producing in the style of Horrorcore & pop Blends. My debut album “Mother It’s Raining Red” was released on October 18, 2019. It’s available on 150 Major streaming platforms like Apple Music, iTunes & Spotify.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
The greatest challenge is having the will & the skills, studying and learning from the original greats & trying to make it as an independent artist with not such a big platform. It’s a young man game and this Generation is different from the style than what I came up listening to. I need to keep challenging to be heard.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
Hahaha. Don’t mean to be cocky but I was personally told that what I do is unheard of. That it’s the future sound of the music industry. I didn’t think it was anything special but after listening to my album it is different. And I’m harmonious naturally not using auto-tune. Trading raps & singing like it’s one & producing every song on this album. 18 tracks. I give myself 9.5 out of 10 at what I do.
What are your plans for the near future?
In the future, I plan on releasing a Sophomore album and challenge myself to write and produce a better album than “Mother It’s Raining Red.” But I’m currently also working on my Sophomore Mixtape “He Came Home” which will be available for free on sites like Datpiff & Audiomack Just like my first mixtape “Love Under The Halloween Bridge”
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
I would like to thank the Almighty God Jehovah (YHWH), in the name of his son Jesus for the gift of the Holy Spirit. I Thank My true Family & Friends. Shouts out to my mom dukes Trina & Dad(Mikey). Shouts out to the whole Canarsie Flossy & my Main block E 89th C.T.S. My Sisters Keturah & Shaquerra.
