How did you come by your brand name?
This came about from my DJ days I used to go by the name Reggae Selecta and then added the UK to let people know where I am based when I was streaming online.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I realized my eye for Talent in Dancehall and Reggae when I was DJ’ing I started to find some young undiscovered talents and wanted to give them airtime. Then did some producing followed by the idea of setting up the Dancehall and Reggae Freestyle show.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I guess it comes back from my Father who is from Jamaica and is a big Reggae fan. I grew up listening to him play the likes of Garnett Silk, Sanchez, and Beres Hammond, etc.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
I saw UK shows like fire in the booth and felt I could apply the concept to Reggae and Dancehall. The problem was obviously being based in the UK so reached out to potential collaborators and was in touch with Ace Media who is a young videographer and entrepreneur. We discussed the idea and put it in motion by trialing some young artists. We then got to the point where we had everything in order to run the shows weekly with a DJ to give it some flavor.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
The challenges happen often which are communication being overseas, last-minute cancelations, or even technical issues which happen alot and cost alot of money. My work ethic has always been persistence never give up mentality and it has led to the show continuing to grow.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I would say I am the best when it comes to talent-searching artists, alot of artists we have featured are unknown and really talented. Whereas other similar shows tend to only feature already established artists. On top, I have been consistently putting content out weekly sometimes twice a week which is unrivaled.
What are your plans for the near future?
I am hoping to firstly continue to grow the Freestyle brand and also a lot of producing projects are upcoming.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shoutouts?
Well, Ramone (Ace Media Entertainment) of course is the show partner and it could work without him. Also, the rest of the team and people who work with us include DJ Quality, GSP Stretch the engineer, and Frankie Music/Frankie Music Studio.
How can fans find you?
