DJ JEFE Interview with Muzique Magazine

How did you come by your stage name?

I was searching for a name that represented my personality as a DJ and my friend jokingly called me “Jefe” which means “boss” in Spanish. The name stuck and I embraced it as my DJ name.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I have always liked music and the ability to use samples to create such a wide range of music. It’s great to see how something so simple can create something so great (and in different variations.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I would say my family and friends have encouraged me to be myself and let the inspiration for creating music come to me. I would also say people like Logic, Samm Henshaw, and Kanye West

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

I had previously done some DJing but not under a name and saw this as an opportunity to reinvent myself and get back into the game.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

Some of my greatest challenges would be where the song should go next. I’ll start working on songs and then hit a block on where the music should go. This links to my greatest attribute to using other music styles to influence my music and make it my own.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

Yes I am because I ensure that my style and my music are my own, and no one else’s

What are your plans for the near future?

To continue to create music and work with artists from different countries and genres

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shoutouts?

Shout out to God, my family and friends, EBI Records, and DJ K-Wale for all their encouragement, and support, and for believing in me

How can fans find you?

They can find me on Spotify (DJ Jefe), Instagram, and TikTok (thedjjefe)

What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself? (optional)

I would say to just start. You will never know how far you can go unless you start!
