Ali Kulture exclusive interview

How did you come by your stage name?

My real name is Ali which in Arabic translates to Noble, Exalted & Elevated. The name Kulture (Culture with a K) originates from the group name I originally started doing Hip-Hop with. Through time everyone in the group took on different key roles for the brand such as clothing, videography, directing and I stuck with the artist side. Therefore it was just common sense for me to make my stage name Ali Kulture.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

The love for the craft was instant. The first time I wrote a rap and recorded it I fell in love with the process. Through time though, what grew the love, was being able to channel my energy and growth through it. The therapeutic value of being able to speak your inner thoughts is release therapy for negative emotions and amplification for the positive ones. To have people from all backgrounds and walks of life tell me they identify with the emotion behind certain songs or that they relate to my experiences makes everything worthwhile.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I grew up on classic Hip Hop to everything that reflects mood music like my own. I would say artists like Tupac, Nas, 50 cent & J. Cole. It’s undeniable however the impact that artists like Travis Scott have had on the industry.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

The current project I’m working on is called “On God” and the concept comes from my own personal growth as a man and an artist. It reflects the truth in every sense of my life and where I am at in my maturity. I believe it has my greatest work to date.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

My work ethic is constant. I literally have no chill, according to everyone that loves me. I can’t stand the idea of downtime or just remaining idle, the value of time is something life has taught me. I’m literally working 24/7.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

Hands down. Don’t do this if you don’t believe that.

What are your plans for the near future?

To keep growing as a man, to do more good and only do good.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

I’d like to give a shout-out to the whole team – Omar Harris, Big Benz, my brother Aftah Sum, the whole Kulture camp – Amal, Sorob, Khanzi. The team at Desi Hip Hop & Raf for the constant support. Everyone at MMP studios, the GHHP camp, Wali, Sergio Cortez, D Noc.

How can fans find you?

Everything is Ali Kulture or @mrkulture

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

The main suggestion I can give is that no one owes you a damn thing. Talent doesn’t mean anything to your ability to build a brand and lead a team. You have to be able to invest in yourself and own the vision of everything you do.
