Interviews Guitarist Sven Jørgensen
Interview with Sven Jørgensen
Earlier we got a chance to take a minute to have a Q&A with the multi-talented Sven Jørgensen. He is very passionate about his music and has begun to carve his name in the memories of fans across the world. Equipped with a guitar and his voice, Sven Jørgensen is sure to take the music industry by storm. Check out his interview below to find out more…
Muzique Magazine. How did you come by your stage name?
Sven Jørgensen. Years ago someone said I looked like a scandinavian. I thought Sven Jørgensen
sounded like a cool stage name. And to be honest I love everything concerning those North-European countries, the silence and not having anyone around and when I think to Norway or Sweden or so, I feel myself homesick, even though I don’t belong there.
Muzique Magazine. When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursuit a career in music?
Sven Jørgensen. I started playing the guitar by chance when I was seventeen. Some friends formed a punk band and they needed a bass player and one of them brought me at home an old wrecked guitar to practice. He said “Bass is just easier to play ’cause you don’t have to pick more than one string at the time!”. As soon as I put my fingers on the keyboard, I fell in love with the guitar and chords, and never played punk.
About pursuing a music career: that hasn’t occured yet. But I’ll let you know as soon as it happens, I promise. I love music but I’m not ready yet to make it my first occupation (or maybe I’m not good enough, who knows).
Muzique Magazine. To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Sven Jørgensen. I love the Beatles over all. They are the beginning of everything we listen to nowadays, I guess. Along with Bob Dylan, which is the father of all musicians (even though just a few knows it). I also like QOTSA’s style, dEUS, Millionaire (another sick band from Belgium). Bright Eyes, I adore them. Talking about acoustic stuff I would say Elliott Smith and Kings of Convenience. I like traditional music from all over the world. I like music that gets born spontaneously, without capitalistic intents.
Muzique Magazine. On your current/upcoming album… How did you come up with the concept for this project?
Sven Jørgensen. For a long time I’d been searching for the right people to form a band and to get along with. They never came. So, at one stage I said to myself: “Why the hell do I have to wait for the right musicians to play my music?”. Hence I started to record some demos in my basement. The ideas I had in my head started taking shape. I was really excited. I can play guitar, bass, piano. I can sing and do harmonies. That’s all I needed.
Of course now that the record is done I found some very talented musicians. The most challenging part was finding someone who was talented and humble at the same time. At first it seemed to be impossible but then I made it and I’m very satisfied.
Muzique Magazine. What are some of your greatest challenges as an artist, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Sven Jørgensen. My greatest challenge is (mine and of most artists I know) doing all by myself: beside composing, arranging and playing I do follow the promotion, the bookings, I create my own graphics. I couldn’t do otherwise because at the moment I can not afford paying a press agency or booking agency.
Currently I’m challenging myself day by day with these new things that have come all at once in my new life as an artist and I’m doing pretty well. That’s one great attribute of mine.
Muzique Magazine. What impression would you like listeners to be left with after hearing your music?
Sven Jørgensen. I would like them to feel guilty as human beings. Then I’d like them to be sad and angry. Then I want them to get drunk and fall in love with me.
Muzique Magazine. What are your plans for the near future?
Sven Jørgensen. Being on stage more than I can. Maybe composing another “mini-concept-album” that takes care of other perspectives of humanity. I already have a few ideas in progress.
Muzique Magazine. Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Sven Jørgensen. Yes. I have to be very grateful to all those people who never believed in me and in what I did: without them I’d never be what I am.
