Mino Chelly Exclusive Interview With Muzique Magazine

Extraordinary, dark sounds and nostalgic song lyrics about childhood memories, Nintendo games, and Japanese anime shows are common in Mino Chelly’s new album called “Mino Moon”. The 21-year-old singer, songwriter, and music producer has so far only worked on productions for other artists and now wants to write and sing his own songs also.

In our interview with the newcomer artist, we want to talk about his new release and his work as a musician.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I’ve always loved music. My parents have always been big fans of Metallica and AC/DC. My older siblings listen to hip-hop and electronics, so that’s what I grew up with. When I was 13 years old, I felt pretty lonely at times, so I found another hobby other than playing video games. I started making beats and I immediately enjoyed it a lot. If I listen to them today, it’s just unbearable, but everyone starts small and takes their first steps. Over the years I learned a lot, met people who were on the same grind like me, and at some point, I realized that music is what defines me.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I developed my style through the experiences I have gained. It’s hard to describe what my style is anyway. I don’t know myself. I always only do what I feel at the moment. Who knows, maybe I’ll do rock tomorrow and jazz the day after. I just love to be creative and not cling to one thing.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

Without wanting to sound selfish, “Mino Moon” is about me and my feelings. You could say it’s the musical way of introducing myself. I want to show people who I am, what I sound like, and what I’m currently thinking about. I also want to show people my producer side, so this album also includes the instrumental version of every song.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

I always give everything. 90% is like zero for me. I always give 100% when I work. At least. It wasn’t always easy to maintain motivation, but with the right people around you and with good ideas, you can always give all and get going.

What are your plans for the near future?

I definitely want to focus on working with other artists. I love to produce for other artists and to give their sound its own touch. I also feel like working on my own songs.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

First of all, I want to thank my homeboy Taca$hi, who can also be heard on two songs on my album. He does so many things for me and I am proud to go my way with him on my side. Also, a big shoutout to Madi, that I can work with her on such crazy things. A lot will happen in the future there, I can promise that. And of course a big THANK YOU to everyone who supports me and believes in me!
