Interview with Rapper/Producer Baby Cate
Baby Cate is an independent rapper/producer from Massachusetts. She released ‘Baby Cate: The Mixtape’ in early 2019, and her most recent release is her ‘Self Love’ EP.
How did you come by your stage name?
My family used to call me ‘Baby Caitlin’ when I was younger, so I just shortened it to ‘Baby Cate.’ I don’t spell it ‘Baby Cait’ because at first when I was just starting out I didn’t want anyone to find out I did the music for some reason. I thought they’d find me easier. But I just kept it ‘Baby Cate.’
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I discovered I loved my craft after I went to this music tech thing at a summer camp and they had GarageBand. This was around when I was in middle school and I was just getting good at guitar. I never looked back after that.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
I was feeling down, and the music I was making made me feel better. It’s selfish, but self-love is really important. Every time I make music in the beginning before I release it, it’s always just for me and no one else.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
My greatest challenge is writer’s block when I come across it, but thankfully it rarely happens. It’s tough to snap out of it. My greatest attribute might be keeping my work ethic consistent. Every day I’m always working on building, whether it’s making more music or building my brand.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
Not yet, but I get better every time I do it.
What are your plans for the near future?
More music.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Should out to ‘Last Hope.’ Got something coming soon that will hopefully clear anything up if you’re confused.
How can fans find you?
