Behind The Scenes
Interview with Candice Carter DJ Services
How did you come by your stage name?
Well it’s pretty unique in the fact that I just used my own name:)
Everyone calls me by my first and last name as if it is one name so I let it be and went with Candice Carter DJ Services.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I realized my love for the craft at a young age. I collected records, cassettes, cd’s and always listen to a wide range of music. Driving around in the car listening to music is one of the things I love most. I grew up around music and my whole family loves it.
You would catch us any day gathered around a piano singing, having a karaoke party or just dancing to our favorite songs. I have been a youth pastor for over 15 years and my love for drama ministry turned me on to lots of song mixing, audio, video, effects and so forth.
A friend asked me to DJ her wedding and from there it snowballed into more weddings, dances, proms, community events, etc. My DJ career took a turn when I was given the opportunity to DJ a celebrity convention for the hit show “One Tree Hill”.
That led to many more celebrity conventions including most recently DJing Galaxycon with over 65,000 people and Chicago Heroes in Chicago, Illinois with celebrities from Chicago PD, Fire and Rescue.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I accredit my sense of style for many factors. My parents raised me on gospel music, 70’s rock and disco. I was born in the ’80s and fascinated by the 90’s pop culture, style, and dance music. I am a mobile DJ who usually plays for a wide variety of people so knowledge of a wide variety of music has been helpful. People usually compliment me on having such a variety in my genre and style.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Some of my greatest challenges with DJ’ing is that I always want to keep things classy and real. I love the music and the memories made at all the events I host.
I always want to remain focused on the goal and never wavering to keep up with certain trends. I am unique and confident in what I do but I want the words integrity, honesty and classy to describe my work as well. I believe my faith would have to be my greatest attribute.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I am certainly at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to being the best in this line of work. What I can say for myself is that it’s a passion and something I enjoy doing. I believe that shows through in my work and at the end of the day, that’s what means the most to me.
What are your plans for the near future?
I have several big events coming up. First is an Eyecon’s “Ravens Take State” One Tree Hill Convention where I will DJ 2 days I’m Wilmington North Carolina and 3 days in Raleigh, North Carolina.
This event will include me DJ’ing a night on the USS Battleship of North Carolina and during a concert with Ryan Cabrera, Tyler Hilton, and Bethany Joy Lentz. I am scheduled to DJ Galaxycon in Minneapolis, Minnesota In November and Friends With Benefits “Return to Tree Hill’ Celebrity Convention in February 2020.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Shout outs to my family, friends, community and CHAOS youth!
