YOUNG CAM DA DON Interview with Muzique Magazine

How did you come by your stage name?

I came from an era where the word Young was familiar to everyone who aspired to make music at the time. So it only fitted for me to call myself Young cam da don.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I think my mother was the spine for my love of music. Today she introduced me to Will Smith, Heavy D, Notorious B.I.G., 2pac, and Jodeci throughout my childhood and adolescent years. What made me want to rap was my love for making metaphors to the point where I was nicknamed metaphor man.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I have to give it to Cassidy and Will Smith for my love of punchlines and the talents in entertaining a crowd.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

My aunt, ten years ago, called me a heartbreaker on my birthday when I turned 20. HeartBreak Cam 2 embodied what I went through in my 20s. I went through being a player, strip clubs, sex addiction, depression, and the loss of a family member all into one, and you get the title.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

I was faced with tough crowds many times; however, I was able to give it all I got, which included making fun of myself and keeping it entertaining because when you make people laugh, you have their undivided attention.  I think my most excellent attribute to my work ethic is now I’m willing to be laughed at for trying something different and always keeping a consistent pattern on doing it.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

Everything I do is not great good, but it’s not great. I do crappy songs and good songs. It happens, but I do this because it’s one of the only things to express myself.

What are your plans for the near future?

I plan to continue what I’m doing now. I’m running a marathon, not a sprint.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout-outs?

Give thanks to God; my parents, my sisters, my niece, Grandma Marsha and Mitchell, Uncle Jay,  R.I.P. Marces Cole, Fuelo, Robert, AJ, G3, Sweet Lucy, Geek Squad, E da prophet, Channing, Andy, Tanya, DJ Top City, Bryan, Rochelle, R.I.P. Juan P, R.I.P. Teezy, R.I.P. Dominique, and to the woman who put me in debt, broke my heart and became a catalyst to my HeartBreak Cam Persona.
