Stefanie Marsse talks about her craft, style and more

Daring, bold, and impossible to ignore – meet Stefanie Marsse, an emerging pop artist currently making her mark on the global music scene. Her style is distinctly pop, fusing the indie-Esque vocals to the sweet, soft-rock melodies. She’s highly versatile and able to work in a variety of genres as she continues to push the boundaries of what pop music can be.

The up and coming artist uses music as a way to express her truest self and share her life experiences with the world. Born and raised in the Philippines, the young singer has been writing her own lyrics and melodies since she was just eleven years old. She’d been listening to a multitude type of artists since she was a child and even won first place in a  singing contest when she was only eight.

Her love for music grew as she continued to win singing competitions. She went on to train with professional vocal coaches at the acclaimed Center For Pop and ABS-CBN’S Star Magic. Stefanie notes that music is like oxygen for her and she couldn’t live without it.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I have been exposed to music for more than a decade, but my burning passion for music began when I was 7 years old. Celine Dion and Taylor Swift have a big influence on my music career as they have inspired me to start joining singing competitions as early as 8 years old and won those contests I had joined.

My father thought that I have the potential in becoming a successful singer one day; thus, he enrolled me in two of the best voice training centers here in my home country, the Philippines, to further train me. It is in those years I had realized that music makes me feel alive and happy within. I always think of it as oxygen, something I could not imagine living without. At the age of 11, I began making my own songs, but it was all for fun.

Fast forward to 2020, I am given the opportunity to produce my own songs professionally because of the connections I had made; hence, I took that opportunity, and now my debut single is already available to play on many major digital streaming platforms.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

Currently, my music style is gearing towards pop in general. However, truth be told, I am still testing the waters as to which subgenre of pop fully fits me as a music artist. I believe that as I keep on making songs in the future, I will eventually find out who I am as an artist and what subgenre, rather, style is the one for me. I am open to possible changes!

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

My debut single gives a glimpse of what was happening to me one year ago. I was going through dark and rough times and had lost my way back then. It reached a point wherein I could no longer recognize myself anymore. One of my main goals as a music artist is to express who I am or who I was through my songs; thus, I made a song that tells you a little about my past.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

There are three challenges that I faced when I was in the process of making my song: conceptualization, melody-making, and recording of my vocals. Firstly, since I am quite a perfectionist, I do not want to take the conceptualization of idea’ stage lightly as this could lead me in the wrong direction; so, it took me some time to finally decide what topic should my song be about.

Secondly, it was also challenging to make catchy melodies because I want to ensure that my song is unique or catchy. Last but not the least, as mentioned I am quite a perfectionist, I had to re-record my vocals over and over again until I was satisfied and it took quite some time too.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

In my opinion, I am best at singing and I want to prove that in my upcoming songs in 2021! So, stay tuned on my social media platforms!

What are your plans for the near future?

My plan is to keep on finding out who I am as an artist and to keep on producing music for the world. More importantly, I will be releasing more songs in 2021 but there is no fixed nor tentative date yet.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

First off, I would like to give a shoutout to my music producer who helped me finish my song! Secondly, I would like to thank my family and friends for supporting my music career as early as I have promoted my music teaser on my social media platforms. To be more specific, shout out to my own family, T3 Patron family, and my best friends!

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

I highly suggest for other artists out there that you take your time in making your music, so be patient! Perfection is not something to be rushed! More importantly, believe in yourself because good things will start within you.
