How did you come by your stage name?
I’m a singer-songwriter & entertainer, from Maui, Hawaii. Now I live in Norway & South of France. I create pop / Tropical House music with high energy happy vibes. I wanted to express that through my artist’s name. “Waikiki” is named after one of the most famous beaches in the world.
It is a dream for most people to ever visit Hawaii. The word has several different meanings. One is loud & bright which describes my music. I want people to be happy & think of something wonderful when they say my name in fact just to say “Waikiki” puts a smile on your face.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I’m a local girl from Maui, Hawaii, but my life story has taken me far from the local Hawaiian scene. It all began after winning a local beauty contest where I won a modelling contract to Japan. The Japanese market was instrumental in promoting my career as an actress & singer because I could speak Japanese.
It was because of the Japanese that I later became a full-time professional singer. My Japanese agent turned me into an entertainment machine. I learned to sing with a small band and performed once a week at a 5 Star Hotel in the Tea Room.
I was required to wear a flower in my hair like Billy Holiday & dress in a ball dress which I had plenty of as I was a former beauty queen and had won numerous while attending the University of Hawaii on Maui. I was mainly a model but when I arrived in Europe to model I was told by many agents I was too small, but because I could sing a little my agent secured me work as a jazz singer in night clubs throughout Europe.
I studied song & dance during the day to perfect my talent. I was inspired to become a songwriter as I was always poetic, musical & I also understood in order to have a lasting career I would need to become a recording artist. I secured a writer’s contact with BMG out of Stockholm.
They secured my first record deal with EMI- Warner Chappell. My 1st release was “Maui No Ka Oi” which became a worldwide hit. The rest is history. Please visit for more information at www.waikikientertainment.com & https://ipluggers.com/waikiki
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
That’s a good question! I have my own style which is a mixture of high-end Chic Bohemian & an island Goddess look.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
I’m a singer-songwriter. I always try to make a connection with the listener by bringing joy and happiness through my music. I write & produce songs that come from my life experiences.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
You have to stay focused. My greatest attribute, when it comes to my work ethic is the “details in creating the production”. The devil is in the details. I’m from a formal military family and details were a big thing in my family.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
No way! I find great joy in performing and bringing joy to the listener.
What are your plans for the near future?
I’m releasing two more tracks in the next month & them an Album of my work in fall 2020.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
I’d like to thank a lot of people and countries for giving me a chance to find my potential as a person.
