Behind The Scenes
KEWMOO Interview with Muzique Magazine
How did you come by your stage name?
My name is KEWMOO. I got my name from my parents when I was born and the meaning behind it was “equal & whole” in my native language. I always liked the sound of my name and how it looked written down, so I decided to use it as my stage name.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I’ve always loved music, ever since I was a little kid. I would sing along to the radio all the time, and I was always drawn to the emotional power of music. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized I wanted to pursue a career in music. I realized that I could use my music to connect with people on a deeply emotional level, and that’s something that I really want to do.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
My influences come from a variety of music. I grew up listening to a lot of rap and hip hop, but I also enjoy other genres like rock and pop. I take inspiration from my own life experiences, as well as the experiences of those around me. I also find a lot of inspiration in nature and the universe.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
The concept for this project was to create an album that would act as a time capsule for my current thoughts and feelings. I wanted to document my life and what I was going through at this moment in time so that in the future I could look back and remember how I felt during this particular period. Everything on the album tells a story. I wanted this to be the story of my life so far.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
I think one of the biggest challenges I face is staying motivated. It’s easy to get comfortable and complacent when you’re making music in your bedroom, and it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle of the Internet. I have to remind myself constantly why I’m doing this and what my goals are. My greatest attribute is probably my determination. Once I start something, I usually see it through to the end.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I believe that I am very good at what I do. I have a lot of experience and I always try to put my best foot forward.
What are your plans for the near future?
I am currently working on an album with What is That. We are hoping to release it in the next few months.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shoutouts?
First and foremost, I want to thank God for all of His blessings. Without Him, none of this would be possible. I also want to thank my parents for their support, as well as my brother and sister. I also want to give a shoutout to my team, 8800. We’ve been grinding and working hard to make our dreams a reality, and I’m grateful to have them by my side. Finally, I want to give a shoutout to all of my fans. Your support means everything to me, and I can’t thank you enough.
How can fans find you?
My fans can find me on all major streaming platforms under the name KEWMOO. I also have social media. Instagram @kewmoo8800 and Twitter @kewmoo8800 I created those because I have been told they spread the word and they are equally creative outlets. I see the world and the message as the music along with everything surrounding it.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
There are a lot of different ways to approach making music, so my best suggestion would be to find what works best for you and stick with it. There’s no one right way to make a song or an album, so don’t be afraid to experiment. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to other artists for advice or collaboration. The music community is full of incredibly talented and generous people, so take advantage of that.
