DkMTkM Talks About His Sense of Style, Upcoming Project, and More

How did you come by your stage name?

So this is always a letdown for the listener but it’s kinda so simple it is funny. I started in music mixing and my first track I wanted to submit to a site. I needed an Artist’s name so I just took my initials Dylan Kent Meyer and my nickname is Turtle so TKM. (DkMTkM) So I didn’t care because I thought would only use it once. The mix got some attention so a lot of people knew the name so I kinda had to keep it.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

So when I was like 8 years old my parents had a karaoke machine and just so happened they had Billy Ray Cyrus’ Achy Breaky Heart(yes that) well it was instrumental so I had it in my head I wanted to create the achy-breaky rap which I did and performed for my family.

It’s kinda funny the first thing I ever did was mix 2 crazy genres. I remember every word and might be my best work ever. Be on my tombstone probably. The 9-5 grind had me realize I wanted to pursue a career path in music.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I was just born to style. No, I would say I’m lucky to have some really good friends that had an intervention with me at an early age, or else I might be wearing a sweater vest and bowtie right now.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

So currently I am between projects but the prior one I was inspired by the sight of so many girls that are enslaved into the sex trade because of heroin and meth. I spoke to a few and it’s crazy how many had great parents who grew up in stable homes yet drugs have them prostituting to pay for the drugs. So I actually helped one get off them by connecting her back with her mom. that’s. why the song is “cross the tracks”. Like, don’t look back! run

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

So I’m not the best at music, producing and I can’t sing so I will say I’m the best at being bad at something but putting so much heart into it and telling a good story that it works for me. Enough to where I actually have 1 or 2 fans that enjoy it too.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

My sis Rachel recently knows why and her husband. My two brothers who still need to apologize for some of the trauma they caused me as a kid. Also Jarrod, Ron, Chad, and Jason who are the crew members of my squad.

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

Figure out not the what you want to do but the why you want to do it. Use that why to get get tunnel vision and cancel all of the noise until you get there. I’m still grinding and I know I have more stories to tell. TY
