INDIE SPOT
Interview with upcoming artist “Cool Ass”
How did you come by your stage name?
To me Cool-Ass is more than just a name, it’s also an attitude. When I think of Cool Ass I picture leather jackets, classic cars, and graffiti, but it’s mostly about having self-respect and believing in yourself. It’s about being good to others, and also being able to accomplish your dreams. I make some pretty cool ass music too.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
When I was nine I was lucky enough to break into acting with musical theatre. As I got older, I spent lots of time in studios laying down vocals for commercials and TV shows. I’ve always had music in me, and I just need to get it out of me and into the world.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Being a teenager in the ’90s, I’m heavily influenced by the style of music for that time period.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
“Fuck You COVID-19” just popped into my head one day. I was actually getting ready to record some other songs at the time, out of nowhere we got hit by this virus.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Probably the biggest challenge for me was learning the technical
aspects of music production. My greatest attribute is that I simply refuse to give up.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I can’t really think of anybody else who’s doing what I’m doing… I mean I’ve looked. If you know of anybody else who puts out 90’s style, toe-tapping, energetic rock with funny lyrics please let me know!
What are your plans for the near future?
Since I already have a lot of songs written, I plan to record and release more singles until I have enough for an album.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
I especially want to thank my fans, because they make me feel like the luckiest person alive! I am so grateful for all their love and support. Also, I have to thank my good friend Louis Mercier for helping me with all my crazy ideas. I couldn’t have made the music video for “S.O.B. (Song Of a Bitch)” without all his hard work.
How can fans find you?
My website is coolass.tv, and I have links to all my social media
there too.
What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?
Follow your heart and never give up, and most of all, believe in yourself.
