Interview with Singer and Producer Haifa Kamal

Haifa Kamal is a pioneer Jordanian indie singer, producing music albums & singles for the past 10 years, in different music genres such as Arab-pop, EDM, Bossa Nova & Orchestral music. Haifa Kamal started singing aged 6 years

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

The indie music industry is huge, allowing indie artists to experiment, and produce new styles, in addition to work on & improve existing styles. As an Arab artist, I consider traditional Arabic music heritage as a big influence on my musical journey, in the past few years I’ve been fusing traditional Arabic music & songs with modern EDM, Jazz, & Latin arrangements.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

My most recent project, an EP called #TheEDMProject, I try to introduce old traditional Arabic songs to the new generations and youth in Electronic Dance styles such as Deep House, Trance & Trap, wishing to revitalize this rich heritage, and make it more popular upon Youth.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

Exposure, is the greatest challenge for indie music artists, lack of production tools, low budgets, and self-funding are also among the challenges we face in our journey.

What are your plans for the near future?

Producing more music videos, and collaborating with more indie artists, to achieve more diversity in my music.

I was blessed to collaborate with Arab & international indie musicians and music producers in the past few years, such as Austin Leeds (USA), SHRAi (India), Alaa Wardi (Iran), & Yazan Rousan (Jordan).
